Peppers: There's still more I could give

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times, who covers the Bears, took a trip this week to Bailey and Wilson, N.C., where new Bears signee and former Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers grew up. The first of two parts of his report includes this interesting admission from Peppers:

Peppers was named to the NFL’s All-Decade team, he is a five-time Pro Bowl selection, and he has had 81 sacks in eight seasons. But he also has been dogged by a range of criticism — that he doesn’t always play hard and that he hasn’t been productive enough — throughout his career.

Surprisingly, he doesn’t disagree.

‘‘I feel the same way, actually,’’ he said. ‘‘I feel I haven’t given everything I have to give yet, and I can do more.

‘‘I’ve had a good career so far, but there’s still more I could give.’’

Shocker? No. Peppers knows it... everyone knows it.

I hope the guys pulls it together and I honestly fear the next time we play the Bears. That will be the most inspired Peppers has ever played.

It's going to be interesting to see how well he plays for the Bears. I liked Peppers as a Panther, but now i kind of want to see him fail. I know that sounds bitter but after the way he dealt with the Panthers i guess he deserves bitter.

Why do you guys continue to run Peppers articles? HE IS GONE! How about stories on CURRENT Panthers players?

Posted by: Bye Bye Peppers | Mar 11, 2010 10:52:53 AM

He's freakin' gone. Move on already!

He left cause he couldn't handle the pressure here, slacker!

Everyone needs to forget about him. We have a lot more to worry about in the next few years than Peppers admitting what we all knew.

Let someone else see how much he wastes his talent.

Peppers not play 100% all the time???? No way in the world I could believe a thing like that! That just has to be something that was made up by a reporter because Peppers and take plays off just doesn't even go together in the same sentence......

But I too fear that when we play them, he's going to go all out and play like he has never played before in his life.

why is darin crying in his picture? why does the O have three old white men covering the panthers. not one black?

Posted by: dick butkis | Mar 11, 2010 11:18:02 AM

He will be soundly handled by Gross or Otah. They will be inspired too. The game in 2010 will let the Bears know just what a mistake they made when he "disappears" against the Panthers.

Okay really now.. The Peppers articles are getting ridiculous. If I wanted to go to the Bears blog I would.

And sane goes for the Brady Quinn article, the article has five sentences about the panthers what does that even matter.

wow, the entire column (other than what was printed here) told the story of a humble guy who was always appreciated by his teammates and coaches and who gave to charities without seeking recognition. telling that the CO only prints the one negative part. you sounds like a jilted high school girl.

Posted by: ChileG | Mar 11, 2010 11:22:55 AM

maybe if the O showed a little diversity and hired at least one black man to cover the panthers, they could get some interviews. after all, who would refuse a brother for a comment/interview, and risked being called racist? come on you neanderthals at the O, join us in the new millenium.

Will you three guys move on and continue your man crushes of Peppers on your own time! We would like to know what's up with Panthers! You know the remaining current roster and maybe about potential future acquistions that may land here or do we have to go elsewhere for that? Just sayin'! Last time I checked Mister Ego Julius Peppers was a member of the Chicago Teddy Bears. Move on already we have.

darin is either crying or stoned....

Posted by: dick butkis | Mar 11, 2010 11:27:02 AM

The NoNAME Panthers defense will have more sacks next year than this past year.

Posted by: kevin | Mar 11, 2010 11:28:59 AM

Can we move on please. I mean really!

Posted by: moveon.org | Mar 11, 2010 11:40:30 AM

I guess it's hard to write about the guys that are still here. They haven't played yet. Peppers' immaturity is showing through. I appreciate what he did here, but I agree with the others that it is time to move on. Let him go.

Posted by: PantherFancier | Mar 11, 2010 11:52:39 AM

Peppers will start off next season like a monster. Depending on how the Bears do this may or may not continue through the season. He will probably record 15 sacks for the year, cause 3-4 fumbles, recover 1-2 of them, have 50 plus tackles. Then the same old demons will take hold in 2011 (if there is a season) or 2012. He will start dogging it, the Chicago fans and press will turn on him and he will start looking forward to retirement. No way he plays past the age of 34. He will go down in NFL history as the biggest under achiever who ever played the game.

A newspaper that does research? Wow, what a concept. It'll never catch on here.

it's offical the "CO" has a hughe man crush on peppers, hey ron do you want to be peppers man whore..lol

Posted by: tim | Mar 11, 2010 2:19:25 PM

Peppers was a thief. He took the panthers Max money and gave Min effort. In the last two years I saw few double teams and often I saw a mediocre offensive lineman blocking Peppers out of the play. Then, at the end of the game, he might get a cheap sack when the quarterback held the ball too long.

But every 3rd game, he would make 2-3 plays that would make you drool.

they can't put in you and they can't take it out of you. never was in him and never will be in him. julius is what he is.

Posted by: joe cool | Mar 11, 2010 5:34:39 PM

butkis,

I watched the nova marquette game and they didn't play any white guys. I demand that all NCAA tournament teams start two white guys and join us in this century. Neanderthals! What do you mean they aren't playing white guys! Same rationale.

and now that u have that huge contract thats finally gonna make u play hard??? yea right...
