Harris tweets he's been traded (update 2)

Panthers SS Chris Harris just wrote on his twitter page that he's been traded to the Chicago Bears.

The Panthers have young safeties they trust in Charles Godfrey and Sherrod Martin, and drafted Jordan Pugh in the sixth round to go with journeyman Aaron Francisco

(Update: 3:50 p.m.) It appears the player coming back for Harris will be LB Jamar Williams, who would give them another option at WLB and MLB. He's played well when he's played for the Bears, but that hasn't been often, since he was stuck behind Lance Briggs there.

Harris has tried to put the genie back in the bottle on his Facebook page, saying he "jumped the gun," but the deal appears close to going through.

(Update 4:11 p.m.) Harris now says on Facebook: "The deal is done." Ahhh, new media.

so far the rumor is: chris harris for jamar williams-- no word of draft picks yet.

Wasn't Harris the one who tweeter about Hoover being cut? I think he pissed them off!

Plus Harris isn't the same since he hurt his Shoulder.

Don't like this trade at all

What are we doing? STOP with the youth movement unless you are going to go full out and trade Gross and Smith for some good future picks or young players!

This is crazy, They are dismantling the defense. This team is going to be terrible next season

Posted by: George | Apr 27, 2010 2:02:46 PM

I'm pissed if this is true. Harris is what made the defense so solid, along with Beason. Removing him from the secondary is a huge mistake. If this is legit, this is one of the dumbest movies the FO has ever made.

Chris Harris is 27. This has more to do with the defense then the age.

Posted by: PTR | Apr 27, 2010 2:08:13 PM

I really like Chris Harris, but be real people, he wasn't a difference maker. Sherrod Martin needs to be on the field full time and Godfrey is younger and cheaper than Harris, so it makes sense.

are u sh*ting me? besides beason he was the leader of the defense! and he was the king of the forced fumble!! come on panthers really??? for a backup linebacker?

Posted by: matt s | Apr 27, 2010 2:12:24 PM

Why don't we just give the Bears our whole defense!!!!!!!

Posted by: George | Apr 27, 2010 2:12:57 PM

Your kidding right. He forced more fumbles than just about any Panther on D. T

his is about him chirping about all the cuts of vets more than anything else. It's Beason's D now.

why dont we just cut the whole team, and not play next year, or only sign players on minimum salary..that would save a lot of money

Jared,

I agree, seems like JR is cutting his expenses but raising ticket prices in the process!!! I guess it's his way of saying Thank you, Thank You, Thank You!!!

The guy from Chicago is Brigg's backup if that means anything to anybody

Posted by: KevinMc | Apr 27, 2010 2:27:15 PM

We better be getting Lance Briggs..... and Tommie Harris.... and a pick. Leadership can not be replaced easily... Chris Harris, you will be missed

Posted by: Craig Craig | Apr 27, 2010 2:31:08 PM

WTF???!!!!! Tell me this isn't true!!! What are they thinking in the head office??
Chris Harris has been an valued player for the Panthers, and consistently good. Why not just sell or trade off the rest of the team and be done with it!!!!! Unfreakinbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Pattie | Apr 27, 2010 2:32:15 PM

dude this is a garbage move, unless we got some decent draft picks for this.

Dislike. Tremendously. Good luck Chris, you were a great Panther.

End of Line.

This makes perfect sense. We have young quality safeties in Martin and Godfrey and possible with some of the CB's we just drafted. Harris was plagued with a shoulder injury last year that hurt his tackling. The year when he forced 8 fumbles was 2 years ago. Get over whiners!!!!

We appreciate you Chris. Thanks for the effort as a Panther and good luck in Chi-town. Not looking forward to seeing you in a Bears uniform @ B of A Stadium this year.
