Clausen back in practice, not 100 percent

Jimmy Clausen returned to practice Tuesday and said the toe problem that bothered him through his senior year at Notre Dame continuted to be an issue.

Clausen had surgery in January to repair two torn ligaments in his right big toe and said Tuesday, "I still don't feel 100 percent."

Clausen said doctors told him he may not get there until after the season.

Left tackle Jordan Gross and strong safety Sherrod Martin returned to practice Tuesday, while cornerbacks Richard Marshall (knee), C.J. Wilson (head) and Captain Munnerlyn (calf) were all held out of practice.

Sounds like a big excuse for the rest of the season. 8-8 here we come and that's at best. More like 6 and 10 or 7 and 9 to me.

Posted by: mark | Aug 24, 2010 1:53:44 PM

More like 4 wins at best

Posted by: falconsfan1 | Aug 24, 2010 1:56:43 PM

It sounds like an injury report to me, stop being douchebags about every article.

Posted by: MrBernz | Aug 24, 2010 1:58:59 PM

Hey it's an injury he'll be fine, if we avoid injuries and get our offense going we can definitly be 12-4 or 13-3 Especially
the way our defense is playing. I like Matt as the starter he justs has to play better and once we get Steve and Jonathan back we'll be in good shape.

This TEAM had big concerns at the conclusion of the 2009 campaign. No #2 WR, Needed a LB, No QB and NO Return Man. They failed to fill any of these holes with the multiple Free Agents that were available this summer. Our division continues to improve and we continue to put a mediocre product on the field. The only person that WINS is Richardson! He feeds us sh*it and we eat it! And all he does is gets 70,000 idiots to show up every sunday and pay to watch a team...they we all know is average to below average at best. Then we bash these dreadful sportswriters of the CO, inwhich honestly they are probably doing the best they can. Maybe the stars and moon will align just right and the Panthers actually do something this year(maybe)...I just feel like we deserve better. To think, Some of you morons actually miss Delhomme.(unbelieveable)

p/s. Cue the TARHEELs

I can't for the life of me understand how all of these "panthe fans" can constantly be so downon the team they claim to like. All I see every time I read one of these posts is trash talk. If you aren't a REAL fan why bother calling yourself one. I understand being realistic but with a weak scedule and a good defence this is a 10 win team.

Posted by: klm | Aug 24, 2010 2:21:07 PM

Oh wow, i thought Carolina was stacked at LB with Jon B, Dan C, Jemar W, Eric W, Ivy, and James A?

So they don't need a LB. They need or should use Brian Witherspoon, ain't that why they signed him? To return kicks/punts.

Each and every team improves every year. What do people want them to do, overpaid for FA? Then later on, bash Panthers Front Office for again overpaiding another player.

We have to have one of the most fair weather fanbases in the league. Whats the purpose of going to their games? If they put out medoicre product? Can always watch it from home.

Posted by: adam carter | Aug 24, 2010 2:56:01 PM

@ adam
Actually if nobody buys the tickets for the games you CANT watch at home cause of blackout rules.

Posted by: heelfan#1 | Aug 24, 2010 3:02:33 PM

No doubt you bunch of whiners. This team is going to surprise alot of people and be better than everybody thinks. Then you can jump back on the Panther wagon. GO PANTHERS!!!!

Posted by: patdaddy | Aug 24, 2010 3:04:01 PM

I dont know why all the people on here who think we have fairweather fans think that all fans should just blindly support the team. If we all did that, there would be no incentive for the team to improve.

If we didnt care about the team so much, we wouldnt get on here and post, we just wouldnt show up or we would start rooting for ATL or something.

To hear some of you talk, we have the worst fans in the country, which isnt remotely true. Quite the contrary, to have this many fans AFTER the incompetence we have had in charge of this team the last few years says to me we have some great fans.

@manu4t

Keyword you just said. We have "some" great fans.

@heelfan#1

Im talking about the whiny fans, who always have something negative to say about the team. Rather their cheap, lack of spending to improve, or putting out medoicre talenton the field. To watch the game from home. Wasn't talking about all Panthers fans.

Posted by: adam carter | Aug 24, 2010 3:34:43 PM

You'd think the team was already 0-3 with the way people are talking about it, geez.

We hung with two superbowl contenders down major players. No, we didn't win the first couple quarters, but we kept the game close and played Foxball, minus the turnovers.

Posted by: Mav | Aug 24, 2010 3:56:14 PM

Hey Mark, how can that be an excuse for an 8-8 season?? Jimmy isn't the starter last time I checked. Also, We haven't seen our offense yet this year. We are missing 3 key people. You know who thay are. With Steve in the game that will free up the number 2 receiver. Hopefully that will be Jarrett. Her has caught everything thrown at him this preseason. LaFell has had too many drops. We have several return men. AE will get better. Brian Witherspoon looked good on Saturday. He caught the ball and got some yardage after the punt. We just have a bunch of young guys who have never played together before. They will gel. Give them time.

And BangBus,
We do have LB's. Conner has looked good. Jamaar will be good when he comes back. And if you don't like the team then I suggest you don't go to the games or watch them on TV. We have an exceptional Defense. Our offense is great other than the passing game which we have yet to see all the pieces to.

@manu4t and quote "...all fans should just blindly support the team. If we all did that, there would be no incentive for the team to improve."

FUNNY!!!! So you mean to tell me that the Panthers improve because of the fans??? So you're saying that the Panthers' brass doesn't really want to win, bring the city a championship or anything like that? Basically the team was made so that one man could get rich? Wow, you sound pretty dumb because I'm sure the George Seifert firing after a 1-15 season wasn't done by the fans but by a man name Richardson who wants to win. To prove that, look no further than the head coache's contract you fool. No incentive to get better, smh!!! Most of our starts are players the fans didn't even like coming in, or didn't know $#it about lol.

tickets are available for the titans game for under $9.00 on stubhub. I just love paying full price to watch practice games.

Posted by: JAY | Aug 24, 2010 4:59:00 PM

Falcons fan you better watch out with your lame comments. The way the Patriots ran all over your sorry sack of a D last week shouldn't have you beaming with confidence. If you didn't like the way the Pats steam rolled you just imagine what Double Trouble is going to do to the Falcons soft up the middle team. This team will win 10 games as long as they stay relatively healthy. The D looks better than expected & the offense will come around once we aren't playing against the Jets & Ravens D.

Posted by: Smiley | Aug 24, 2010 5:12:27 PM

Didn't we draft Stewart, and HE had a toe issue ??

Posted by: nasty 704 | Aug 24, 2010 6:54:18 PM

everyone stay home saturday. jerry has our full price for his scrimage. we can at least buy food and drink somewhere else and not waste it at the stadium.

Posted by: jay | Aug 24, 2010 8:35:37 PM

I still think we should have drafted Mardy Gilyard instead of Armanti Edwards. He had experience at KR and PR plus he was a decent receiver.Hes averaging about 24yds on KR and 16.9yds on PR for the RAMS.

Posted by: trheelkev | Aug 24, 2010 8:38:17 PM

Armanti was the best choice, I think they are expecting too much from him in just a short time. Why not let him practice on one aspect of the game rather than several? Let him be a receiver then work in the return game. This guy is fast, once he gets the pace of the game, you'll be glad Carolina picked him over Mardy Gilyard.

And this is for all of those Fox and Hurney haters.....these guys picked John Beason, Matt Moore, Jordan Gross, and other talented players and everytime they pick a bust, you guys jump down their throats forgetting about the quality players they picked. Personally, I hope we keep them both and I think it is disgusting that JR didn't renew Fox's contract. But then again, I think the new Team manager had something to do with it. I don't trust Danny boy!

First of all every team does NOT improve every year, that is dumb. Secondly, don't equate fairweather with passionate. Just because you complain or get down on you rteam doesn't mean you are fairweather. Fairweather fans are ones who don't care when your team is bad and then when they win, they act like they are the biggest fans in the world. the 1-15 year in '01 and then the next year in '02 proved who the real fans were. we were the ones who still showed up and still watched the games on tv and still sported our gear. fairweather fans are the ones who were no where to be found then but in '03 went out and bought a jersey for the first time. a good example of a fairweather fan would be pretty much any unc football fan :)

Posted by: Not Adam Carter | Aug 24, 2010 9:47:51 PM

Yeah, stay home Saturday, there is a good plan.....

Posted by: Not Adam Carter | Aug 24, 2010 9:50:23 PM

im afraid that our passing game is gonna look like last year without that 2nd and 3rd wide receiver.jarett will catch anything thrown to him even if he is not open but he is too slow and the QB will not throw to him.

Posted by: danny | Aug 24, 2010 10:11:46 PM

the defense looks a lot better than expected, maybe that can get us a wildcard, but that probably go to NFC NORTH, or EAST....OFFENSE looks bad, let's hope our rbacks stay healthy,,,otherwise.
