Matt Moore, NFL's 32nd best QB?

ESPN's John Clayton has ranked the NFL quarterbacks, and he has not been kind to Carolina's Matt Moore. Here's his take:

32. Matt Moore, Carolina Panthers

Analysis: He has a 6-2 record as starter, but a slow start could speed the Jimmy Clausen era in Carolina.
Chance of being elite: 5 percent

But if you think that's harsh, check out who he ranked at No. 33 ...

John Clayton aka the crypt keeper is a joke.

Again, yet another example of the national media having no idea what they are talking about when it comes to the Panthers. How could they have a clue, they are so far up the @#$%$ of the Cowboys, Jets, Redskins, Favre and Saints.

Agreed!!!! We are the under dogs. Have you also ever noticed, that during a game the announcer never gives panthers props?? If we score its because the other teams defense made a mental mistake. If we catch an interception, its because the QB made a mistake, NEVER! Is it because, the panthers practice every day to make plays. Its because the good team made mistakes. And we are just lucky losers.

Hey according to jon clayton we upgraded the position from last year lol... cant believe byron leftwich and matt hasselbeck are above them. just shows anyone can do his job.

Anyone ever consider for a second that the national media might be right? Local fans get too emotional about this stuff. Joey Harrington started 3 too many years in Detroit because he was a nice guy.

Obviously, he hasn't watched Jake play this preseason. His QB rating is 110+

Doesn't Jerry Jones also own ESPN? They tout "America's Team" every year for another Super Bowl. Of course, the flip side of the argument is our local talking (writing) heads who all seem to hate John Fox and the Panthers. Oh, for some objective reporting on the NFL and the Panthers.

Joey, I was pointing out that the national media thinks Clausen is going to start any day now. Everyone in Charlotte knows that this is not the case. Again, that is because they cover the same teams over, and over and over again. Think about this, ESPN as assigned reporters for certain teams i.e. Ed Werder in Dallas and Sal (don't know how to spell it) in Philly, you never hear about the Panthers because they are so focus on the media hot markets. All I know is that when Matt Moore is on the field he wins. Don't try to say he plays against teams not playing for anything either. Try telling that to the Vikings and Giants last year.

John Clayton is a no talent @$$-clown. He has hated on Matt Moore from day 1. Clayton and the rest of the ESPN crew have been eating crow because Clausen is not the second coming of Christ they were hyping him to be. He has tremendous potential but its obvious he is not at starter caliber yet. And Jake has been pretty hot this season.

The national media's love affair with Jimmy Clausen is greatly disrespectful to the Panthers organization.

How the heck does Sam Bradford -- WHO HAS NEVER THROWN A PASS IN A REGULAR SEASON NFL GAME!! -- get rated above established players and said to have an 85% chance to be elite? To me, he needs to get an N/A. This man crush the people at ESPN have on Bradford is insane.

Matt Moore is no elite quarterback, but you've gotta rate him higher than Derek Anderson, Matt Leinart and Kevin Kolb.

Also, someone dogged Joey Harrington here. Hey, Tom Brady could have started for the Lions and the team still would have stunk. Harrington has been a starter on teams that had garbage O-lines and receivers (Lions, Dolphins, post-Vick Falcons). I'm probably the only guy in America defending him. But, I'm a fan.

1-33 yet he's got 2 people ranked 28. and both of them are worse than everybody else on the list. how do you have guys like chad henne, kevin kolb, josh freemon and mark sanchez so significantly higher ranked than moore. that doesn't make ANY sense. and jay cutler is probably the most overrated QB in the nfl now that romo's hype has fallen a bit and his production climbed.

The fact that he has Carson Palmer at # 10 says all you need to know about this list.

I just like have they gave Jake Delhomme a ZERO percent chance of being elite... LOL.

I was about to go on an angry, profanity-laced tirade about this, then saw he gave Josh Freeman an 85% chance of being elite. Then I realized that John Clayton is now a senile old has-been, and probably wrote this on a note pad while he was sitting on the veranda of the hospital, with Cream of Wheat oozing out the side of his mouth, waiting patiently for his meds.

I met John Clayton at the mental hospital one time.

J, you double me up laughing :)

Clayton is right on with most of this. I live for Carolina football but I can still see clearly. M Moore is not a very good QB period. I wish, but I know! I still hope we can make good on this season and have some enjoyable Sundays.

Posted by: TP Wynn | Aug 31, 2010 3:19:14 PM

Ron... why is Matt moore not a good qb or are you another one of these guys like Frank Garcia thats going to be tinkling all over the guy when he leads them to a nice season. Jon Gruden yes Jon fn Gruden who knows a little about football says Matt can play, I take his opinion over yours anyday period.

Posted by: SCjonny | Aug 31, 2010 3:35:48 PM

SCjonny...
Moore is not going to lead us anywhere. There are stronger aspects to our team (like defense) that might take us a ways.
We as Panthers fans like to defend our QB but frankly I'm tired of making excuses. Did Rogers, Manning, Bradford, Brees, or Flacco throw a touchdown during pre-season?
Hell who didn't? MOORE! I don't want to rain on our parade but if its cloudy its cloudy. Sorry

Posted by: TP Wynn | Aug 31, 2010 5:07:42 PM

Clayton has never played a down of football in his life. I rank that little nerd, Clayton last in the nerds reporting on sports they've never played.
