Wrapping up an ugly one

That, folks, was a professional football game, for which hard-working people paid full price.

The Jets beat the Panthers 9-3 in a spectacle that included seven turnovers, 20 punts and just 287 yards of total offense — by the two teams combined.

    At least it didn't rain.

The Panthers still appear unable to throw the ball, after spending the offseason working on that part. It was hard to tell, as when QB Matt Moore got the ball out, it was either rushed to the point of inaccuracy or dropped.

Panthers coach John Fox was fairly nonchalant, putting most of the blame on the fact the Jets pressured from many angles, none of which his team game-planned against. You're going to hear a lot of that over the next few days, but you'll also hear a lot of low scores if they don't fix it.

    Other highlights from the evening:

-- The Panthers' 6-of-18 on third down was nothing to be thrilled about. But it beat the Jets' 5-of-19.

-- WR Armanti Edwards wasn't using the inexperience card, when asked about his two mistakes that led to fumbles.

"I caught over 100 punts in camp, that's not an excuse anymore," Edwards said

-- Injury wise, they seemed to come out OK.

Fox said CB C.J. Wilson "got dinged" and that CB Captain Munnerlyn had a calf strain.

Wilson went down after defending a deep pass, and asked how he felt, grinned and replied: "I just fell on my face. I'm good."

-- The intent was to play QB Tony Pike third, since he didn't get much work last week, but that didn't work out.

That means after two games, QB Hunter Cantwell has the highest rating on the team at 48.2 for the preseason. Cantwell was also the thrower of the Panthers lone passing touchdown last preseason.

If Armanti Edwards makes this team and Kenny Moore doesn't, I will be shocked.

Our defense will carry this team. Our special teams will sink this team. Our offense will consist of Double Trouble. It's gonna be a long season.

You know it's bad when the Players of the Game award goes to a punter and a kicker.

no way they cut Armanti this season. They've invested a high draft pick in him, and they went in knowing he's a project.

Now thats football. I love these types of games. Hard hitting smash mouth football all defense. Loved what Beason said to John Conner even more(there aint no terminator coming in here)lol. Defense wins championships and so far the Panthers young defense is looking great. They will allow the special teams time to catch up with everybody else.

Dear Carolina Panthers,

Hey guys! I hope all is well down in Charlotte. I promised to keep in touch and thought I'd give you my stats thus far through our 2preseason games.

Game 1 -
12 of 16 for 127 yards and a touchdown.

Game 2 -
18 of 23 for 193 yards and another touchdown.

By the way, how is Matt doing in my place? Well I better get going. Our coach takes things like practice and being prepared much more seriously than Foxy ever did. Have a great year. I love you guys ... NOT!

Your friend,
Jake Delhomme
Cleveland Browns

P.S.
Jeff Davidson begged me to look into getting his old job back up here. I mentioned it to coach and well, after he finally quit laughing, he said no.

J.D. I'll send you a Jake Delhomme teddy bear so you can sleep at night. Until then, try and get over it.

LaFell has not looked so well in two preseason games. Jarrett has not faired that much better. Smith is getting old, and Rosario showed a glimpse of inconsistency tonight. That receiving corp looks pretty scary. Despite that fact, thank goodness they didn't go after someone like T.O.! I'd rather have to rely on the rushing attack then watch the locker room fall apart.

It's also a real shame the offense had a long field all night and the opposing offense had a short one at least twice (with the Panther defense still taking them backwards on both drives)!

Dear Jake Delhomme,

We here in Panther country want to congratulate you on your two pre-season games ths far. You asked how were doing ince you left? Were doing fine, it is different though, were used to seeing QBs throw as many picks a game as there jersey number...And also, Jeff Davidson said he was trying to get you out of Carolina since he got here and that he used the Browns as a stepping stone to get to a better organization and also to tell you to stop lying about him wanting to re-join the clowns, i meant downs, imeant browns, sorry.

Thank You,

Deangelo Williams
Carolina Panthers

P.S. Ryan Leaf threw 6 touchdowns during hs rookie PRE-SEASON...where is he now? exactly, they don't count JAke, you threw picks when it counted man, that's why you go the boot, or should I say the scratch(Panthers scratch).

That was a great catch that Armanti Edwards made for about 20 yards when he finally got in the game as a receiver.

Thought the #2 QB, Mr. Notre Dame, looked pretty composed during some bad incoming rushes.

NO wide receiver help at all, offense stinks like last year. without Steve Smith is even worse. Not signing or trading for a veteran WR is gonna come back and bite you in the a**.We passed on Owens and Boldin instead we trade our second pick next year for Edwards is not gonna do it.Lafell is not the target either, has way too small hands. We still did not draft a guy who can actually return kicks or punts we expect EX QB to do the job.Its not gonna work.BTW defense is playing even better without lazy money hungry Julius Peppers.
