Fox: Clausen "more than likely" to start
Panthers coach John Fox said rookie QB Jimmy Clausen would "more than likely" start this week against New Orleans.
As a nine-year veteran of translating Fox, that means yes, in fact, he will.
He didn't offer much in the way of specifics, but seemed generally encouraged by Clausen's play -- other than the fumbles.
He was in one of the moods he gets in from time to time, blowing off any suggestions of specific areas of weaknesses.
Asked about the offensive line problems, Fox said that "unlike the media," he wasn't getting into specific areas of concern.
-- No real update on LB Jamar Williams (neck), but had an interesting exchange when asked whether any of the existing reserves could play in the middle.
"We have an alternate plan," he said, without delving into the alternate.
If nothing else, that points to the fact that they're at least a bit uncertain about the prospects of playing LBs Nic Harris, Jordan Senn or Eric Norwood as defensive regulars.

Fox, you suck! I'm so sick of your short and uninformative answers. You're as boring as your offense! Get him out of here!

I agree.. Get rid of him and Jeff Davidson... Our offense sucks.. plays are so basic and wack.. all they have smith is runnning is a fly or a quick slant.. everytime.. We need a new play book!

Way to go Coach. Keep the status quo when you are the worst team in the league. Oh well, free tickets for all!!! Saw PILES of free tickets yesterday, turned down lots on way to our seats. Anyone paying for Panthers tickets at this time must be really slow witted. Glad my company buys mine, as I would be very upset had I bought tickets for this HORRIBLE product we have now. SELL THIS TEAM JERRY!!!!

I'd really like to see Edwards get a chance at QB.

Ya know, I got absolutely no problem with a coach holding his cards close (extremely close) to the vest. The problem is when, behind the poker-face, there is only cluelessness.

Good one BG. When will you all realize we throw away the 33rd pick in the draft for a guy that CAN'T play at this level. How do I know that? He can't dress over that group of wideouts.

Fox's head is in the Meadowlands already...just fire this guy now, he's doing nothing but collecting a paycheck

Look, I still believe that the panthers can still have decent season, but they gotta get Steve involved early in the game, Jeff Otah is a big piece of the puzzle thats missing and if they win this weekend watch and witness how there season turns around. I beleive that they can do a 360 at any given time. And finally don't trade no damn body else that's why this team is in the shape it's in now. Jerry to make money spend money and fire John Fox and the entire offensive team and bring in John Gruden.

@martine, I'm hoping more for a 180

Wow you poeple wont make it in New York, let just be real this season is pretty much a rebuilt one the Panthers are young so I will except that the record this year won't be pretty, so this is what going to happen the whole Front Offfice from coaching staff, will all be gone next year ofcourse accept the President and Owner and nobody needed to be traded well not or playmakers don't forget the Panthers have a bunch of money and who ever going to be the new coach sorry fans but I have a crazy feeling its Cowher , anyway will have alot of cap space to get free agents like play making wrs two of them that on the jets and hey even a cb so slow down people it just matter of time.

Uh, if they turn a 360 they will be going in the same direction they are going now. Duh.

Fire Davidson and let the fans call the plays. Pick a "most valuable PSL holder" and let them text the plays to the quarterback each Sunday. I promise you we fans could call a better game than that dumb A** Jeff (I have no clue) Davidson.

@ Telling Like It Is:
Thanks for being more logical than most people here. It's ridiculous that people are slamming the owner over this. Richardson has been a very good owner for this team. He keeps the franchise stable and sound. While a lot of fans may disagree with the youth movement, it is setting us up for the future. Clausen has very good potential to be a great NFL QB for the Panthers and I hope Fox continues to give him playing time to develope. Anyone who agrees that Steve Smith should be traded needs to think again. He's our franchise WR and still has great playmaking ability when the ball is thrown his way. He's nowhere near being "washed up." Regardless of win or lose, I fully support the Panthers and know that they are building for the future! If this is indeed Fox's last season as the HC, I hope they get a great replacement to continue to turn this team into a consistent winner in the future. Go Panthers!

Do you really think the Giants want a coach that has made the playoffs 3 times in 9 years, has only 3 winning seasons in 9 years and never had back to back winning seasons. They already have a better John Fox in place and they want to get rid of him. Fox is facing a hard reality.

Fox please remember you're in the entertainment industry. This isn't high school football. Your dry, boring, pan faced, answers to the fans you have is very disrespectful and makes people want to quit watching. If you're po'd at a question at least try to be somewhat entertaining with your response like Parcells or Madden. Fans need to see a little color. Mr. Richardson, we all love the Panthers and personally I don't even care if we have a winning team every year as long as they are at least upbeat and entertaining. Fox, maybe you should twitter 85 people out for a surprise free dinner. That would be a great start toward repairing your image. No really, would at least one player or coach make some kind of positive PR splash? It will help keep your fans engaged and spending.

He deserves to start. If nothing happens the first half. Put Matt Moore back in.

Fox,his staff should train at Butler high school.

What ae you talking about when you say "I hope they get a great replacement to continue to turn this team into a consistent winner in the future" ??? We have not had any consistancy since this loser of a coach showed up. 3 winning seasons over 9 years? That is HORRIBLE. His only legacy in Charlotte will be where he coached his last game. Contratry to the local know nothing media, FOx has no offers out there. The rest of the league already knows, his style is yesterdays news. It no longer works in the NFL. GOOD RIDDANCE FOX!!!

IS IT SOOO IMPORTANT TO GIVE RYS "PAY ME A LOT OF MONEY FOR NOTHING" LLOYD A UNIFORM WHEN WE ONLY DRESS THREE RECEIVERS?!!! GET JARRETT AND EDWARDS INTO THE MIX, PUT SMITH IN MOTION SO HE CAN'T BE DOUBLED EVERYTIME, GET JEFF 'TOO SLOW" KING & THROW IT TO BARNIDGE & ROSARIO. PUT GOODSEN,DEANGELO,STEWART, EDWARDS AND SMITH ON THE FIELD AT THE SAME TIME! AND FIRE DOOFUS DAVIDSON AND RIP VAN WINKLE SCHERER!!!

Go on NFL.com and look at video of any ohter coach after a win or loss and you will see how worthless it is to even talk to Fox. I think the media should just stonewall him back and not ask him for quotes anymore after games as he has nothing to say and obviously has taught all the players to do the same thing except for Smith who he can't touch.

Beware: Rational, well thought out and constructed thoughts ahead...
1. Stop complaining that Fox sucks, he's gone after this year, and quite honestly hes a defensive guy with little or no playcalling responsibilities on offense. The problems on offense are not his fault. If you want to bash Jeff Davidson, OK.
2. Please shutup about Armanti playing either at QB or WR. Believe it or not, people who have a CAREER in football know more than you do. 100% of the time. This isn't Madden. I am an App State Alumni and fan who has watched every game Armanti has ever played on the college level. He is nowhere near ready to even sniff the field as a QB.
3. If you're a Dwayne Jarrett supporter your opinions no longer hold any weight. I have great hands too but that is irrelevant because I am slow and can't get open. Just like DJ. I may be able to remember the plays however.
4. Rebuilding. Clausen has potential but he will make rookie mistakes. There will be good days and there will be bad days. The key is by the end of the season do we have faith in him to continue to progress into an elite QB.
Thank you, now stop reading and do some work today. Thats why they pay you.

Agree with most of that, but have to respectfully disagree with the Jarrett observation. How do we know if he can play, they NEVER put him on the field. It is the same thing they did with Eric Shelton. We never know what they can do in a game, because Fox refuses to put him on the field. I hope Jarrett goes to another team and catches 70 balls a year for 980 yards and burns the Panthers on many big plays.
