Bears' Cutler to sit out Carolina game

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) – Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will sit out this week's game at Carolina because of a concussion.

Bears spokesman Scott Hagel said Thursday that Cutler was examined by team and independent doctors after practicing on a limited basis the previous day.

Hagel said the doctors “all agreed that participation in practice” went well but felt that sitting out “was the right way to go.” He said Cutler till will practice Thursday and Friday, and his status will be re-evaluated early next week.

Cutler (below, being sacked by Aaron Ross) was injured in last week's 17-3 loss to the New York Giants, when he was sacked nine times in the first half. Veteran Todd Collins, who took over to start the second half and left that game with a stinger, will start against the Panthers on Sunday and step into a leadership role at an important point in the season.

“I'm pretty comfortable,” Collins said. “The best way to provide leadership, I think, is to go out there and perform well. That's the job as the quarterback, to move the ball and score points. That's what I'm going to try to do to help lead the team.”

"IF' we can't beat the bears without Cutler we may not win a game...this is a gift!

we would have had a better chance with cutler playing. the guy is good for 3 picks just about every game he plays. most overrated qb in the league by far.

we still stand a chance. you guys are such fairweather fans....this team is coming off a 2 point loss to the saints. the bears aren't as good as their record reflects. this is a legit game. if we could have borrowed a veteran QB for the last 2 minutes of the saints game, we walk away with an upset. these guys are going to be solid with more experience.

i don't want to see any of you trying to jump on the bandwagon later.

Cutler isn't really rated THAT highly.

Is Cutler not playing going to improve our offense? Chicago could realistically kick three field goals and still win.

Was anyone really scared of Cutler anyway? Win or lose, it will not be because of Cutler. Either team will be lucky to reach double digits. Carolina gets first win: 10-7.
