Fox mum on quarterbacks

Panthers coach John Fox will spend the bye week trying to figure out a way to fix an offense that has been the NFL's worst through the first five games.

Fox was noncomittal when asked whether Jimmy Clausen or Matt Moore would start at quarterback against San Francisco on Oct. 24, but said the coaching staff was "looking at all means necessesary to move up from 32" on the league's offensive charts.

Carolina, off to the third 0-5 start in team history, is ranked last in the league in yards per game (236) and points per game (10.4) following Sunday's 23-6 loss to Chicago.

Clausen was benched in the fourth quarter in favor of Moore, who promptly threw two interceptions.

Fox, in the final year of his contract, said he was not considering staff changes.

I'm sure "mulling" over our 7 offensive plays makes coach "irrelevent" lose sleep at night...give us fans a break!

Put Armanti Edwards in at QB. Forget these "experts" that do not know what to look for in a QB. The man can play. Would do a heck of a lot better than any other QB the Panthers have or have used.

If Jake didn't have an ankle sprain he would have already called him. Where is Rodney Peete when you need him?

AR-MAN-TI! AR-MAN-TI! Let the movement begin.

Will Fox even make it through the bye week??

Posted by: TiredFan | Oct 11, 2010 1:17:32 PM

Please stop with the Armanti crap. They are playing NFL teams, not Furman JV.

How has Davidson not been fired?

Start Moore & put Edwards in the Wildcat very occasionally as something different.

Why are there so many people so absolutely sure Armanti can't play NFL QB? Joe Flacco and Steve McNair also play against non-FBS teams and are doing/did alright. I'm not saying he's going to be the next Joe Montana or even the next Todd Collins, but unless you've got a crystal ball, you have no way of knowing how he'll. Personally, I just hope he gets a chance. Even though he's 5'11", his release puts the ball at least where (probably above) Clausen's does.

Ya know, I'm neither pro- nor con-Armanti. But when you choose to make comments about his competition being Furman JV, and totally ignoring two straight National championships and engineering one of the biggest upsets in college football history AT Michigan, then you're not being objective.

I wish they'd start Armanti at QB, let him stink it up a bit, and yank him. That'd shut some of these fans up. Of course then they'd be convinced that Pike was really the answer and insist that they knew that all along.

"any means necessary". Bring on Edwards.

SOMEBODY SHOULD LOSE THEIR JOB!!! FIRED MRS RICHARDSON I HAVEN'T SEEN HER DO ONE THING THIS YEAR!!!! BIG KITTY CAT>>>>

I have suggested this several times however the panthers will not try it. If your offense sucks start the game and first half no huddle offense. Maybe this will spark the offense. Go the whole game no huddle if needed....at least you will keep the other teams defense out there.

It was obvious yesterday that Moore is not the answer. I'm not sure Tom Brady would be the answer playing behind our O line and throwing to receivers that can't run routes, can't get open and can't catch when they do get open.
We might as well continue playing Clausen. The risk is that he loses his confidence and gets shell shocked like David Carr.

Ok...for once I am starting to agree with all the ASU alumns...give Armanti Edwards a shot at QB. At least we won't have to worry about him dropping any more passes.

I think all of you who laughed at my 26-3 prediction last week should SUCK IT. As I have been saying all along, this is the worst team in the NFL in a decade.

Where is Bernz???? Hello!?!??!

Posted by: JR-SUCKS! | Oct 11, 2010 1:50:21 PM

Armanti Pike!!!!

I'd like to suggest the Panthers take the bye week and work up a package with 3 TEs, 1FB and 1TB. We have 3 nice TEs who can run routes and catch, which our current crop of WRs can't do. If teams want to put 8 in the box, we'll have 9 to block them.

Posted by: Authority | Oct 11, 2010 1:54:28 PM

I agree that Armanti Edwards should be given a chance at QB. Yeah, maybe he'll suck but what's the downside when you're already 0-5? The O-line can't block worth a damn, so a speedy QB might be the best thing right now.

Posted by: Jerad | Oct 11, 2010 1:59:42 PM

Yeah, it's the guys that played against Furman JV that are the problem with this team. This is "Big Boy Football", yada, yada, yada. Oh, and the "Big Boys" are 0-5

Posted by: tweed | Oct 11, 2010 2:05:20 PM

I vote we go back to no more than 8 passes per game, and have DeAngelo take the snap directly.... Hey, he's less likely to drop the snap than Clausen.

We could start Peyton Manning and still lose with the current coaching regime. Moore, Clausen, Pike, Edwards.....no one is going to win if we cannot find a receiver who will CATCH the football. LaFell looked like he was the converted QB yesterday when trying to catch anything. Edwards had one drop on a poorly thrown pass...but that ball does have to be caught.

I will at least give Edwards one positive during his 2 plays in the Wildcat: He managed to get 8 yards on a blown pass play. Clausen would have fallen forward and gained 0 yards like he did a dozen other times.

Edwards may be the best of the lot at least for this season. He looked better than Clausen in his one series.
