Panthers name St. Pierre starter at QB
Brian St. Pierre will start at quarterback for the Carolina Panthers on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, Panthers coach John Fox just announced. St. Pierre, a journeyman quarterback who was signed to the Carolina Panthers practice squad Friday and promoted to the 53-man roster on Tuesday, has thrown five NFL passes in eight seasons.
Jimmy Clausen, a rookie out of Notre Dame who was last week's starter against Tampa Bay, suffered a concussion against the Bucs and won't play Sunday.
St. Pierre was chosen over Tony Pike, a rookie out of Cincinnati.

Wow, this game may become known as the Thanksgiving Massacre.

How sad is our playbook that someone has been here less than a week can be the starter....1st down, handoff, 2nd down hand off, 3rd down qb sneak, 4th punt....

Go ahead and give the Ravens the W. Why even play?

Why not give Pike a chance.... Dumb move by Fox once again... We used a pick on the kid and Foxy wants the "veteran guy".... BULLCRAP....
I hope he gets knocked out by Ray Lewis so we can get a look at our Rookie. This year is a waste, lets see what we have.

I don't even know what to say anymore.
We pass up our 6th round pick Pike who knows the system, our what will be the 2nd pick next year Amanti Edwards - to go with a 30 year old that has been in the league 8 years and has thrown 5 passes and has been with the team a week!?
I think Fox and Davidson are TRYING to be fired. Probably some clause that if they are fired they get all their pay and if they quit they don't.

We're going to lose. Might as well get the veteran, who happens to be less likely to make dumb mistakes, so we can try and keep it within 20.

Veteran?? He has thrown 5 passes. Pike has thrown 12. Who is the veteran??

Hello... why are we taking advantage of Edwards abilities....
"Armanti Fredrico Edwards (born March 8, 1988, in Greenwood, South Carolina) is an American football player for the Carolina Panthers. He was the starting quarterback for the Appalachian State Mountaineers football team from 2006–09. He was drafted by the Panthers in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. In addition to leading the Mountaineers to consecutive NCAA Division I Football Championships (FCS) in 2006 and 2007, Edwards became the first quarterback in Southern Conference history to lead his team to four straight conference championships. He became the first quarterback in NCAA Division I history to throw for 9,000 and rush for 4,000 yards in a career, accomplishing the feat against Furman on October 31, 2009. Later in the season he would become the first quarterback to pass for over 10,000 yards and rush for an additional 4,000 yards in a career. He is also the first back-to-back and two-time Walter Payton Award winner, given to the Football Championship Subdivision's most outstanding offensive player, receiving the award in 2008 and 2009."

Jerry thanks everyone who will attend the game this week to watch Brian and overpay for beer.

Armanti Edwards can play QB just as well as Brian St. Pierre. You have to give someone a chance.
Armanti could at least run away from some linebackers. The Ravens have a fierce defense and they will slaughter this time either way.

I would rather run the wildcat the whole game with Goodson and Edwards. Just like that ATL game when Wienke was the starter.
I think they are trying to get the first pick! Smart move id say. GO BILLS!

Considering the panthers are playing the Ravens a team that like to Blitz alt. Also taking into fact that our O line has not played good this year. And Goodson might start again .I rather have St.Pierre.Then Pike or Armanti Only because the Ravens like to Blitz alt.And St.Pierre is not in team plan for next year. While Pike and Armanti are.The last thing that we want or need.Is either Pike or Armanti to suffer a big injury that will knock either out for a long time

It's funny... it seems like the Panthers picked Armanti Edwards to pander to ASU fans. Now their reluctance to play him has them at risk of alienating App fans. Sort of fascinating. Jerry Richardson went to Wofford right? Hmmm.

shut up about armanti......i'm just waiting for him to play a snap and get the knocked the hell out so all you hippy ass app fans will shut up for good. regarding the panthers: they suck, im only going to get drunk and cheer for the ravens.

Fox you have definitly came unglued why did you even pick Pike???????
Posted by: rjd60 | Nov 18, 2010 2:21:08 PM
Guys, all these players are supposed to professionals. They have the ability to step up their game given the right motivation.
Now I don't think any player on the Panthers have that motivation, but anything is possible.
I think it will be like a lamb led to the slaughter for St. Pierre, but well see.
Not a big Armanti fan, but hey, throw him out there for a series or two. He will just throw probably once or twice. run run pass punt. Three and out.

I predict at least 1 qb will be driven off the field DEAD.
Posted by: kevin | Nov 18, 2010 2:30:34 PM
Well, I saw this coming, no big surprise I guess. I was really hoping to see Pike get some reps. Fox always goes with the 'veteran' though, even if he has seen less game time than the others.
That is a bit of an oxymoron eh?
