Robinson suspended for violating substance abuse policy

Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Duke Robinson had a bad start to the season, and a worse finish.

Robinson, considered the favorite to win the right guard spot before showing up to preseason camp overweight, has been suspended without pay for the last four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the league announced Friday.

Robinson is on injured reserve, but will be able to serve the suspension while on IR.

A message left for Robinson's agent was not immediately returned.

Robinson, the Panthers' fifth-round draft pick in 2009, arrived in Spartanburg out of shape and was placed on the physically unable to perform list. He was activated in August, but lost the starting job to Mackenzy Bernadeau.

Robinson, who played in one game as a rookie, was placed on IR with a torn knee ligament before the start of the season.

So...basically he just gets to "miss" the last 4 games, which he was already going to miss anyway. Way to bring the hammer down, NFL.

Another one of our winning draft picks by Hurney.

Seriously. Hashish for Jeff Davidson. Maybe he'll get that little Edwards guy from the mountains out there. It's not like they'd piss away a chance at the freakin playoffs... PLAYOFFS? P,p,Playoffs?

I think it shows good strategy on his part-serving the suspension while he's on the couch with a bag of cheetos.

THAT'S GREAT HUSTLE DUKE!!!!

Got my resume typed up: Dear Mr. Richardson, I am a large, out of shape fatbody that is willing to sit on the couch for 16 games, roid it up, and take your money for nothing. Please give me a jersey and some shouldamapads. Hugs and Kisses, Fatty McButterpants.

@scratchy1 - This pick was like any other draft pick in the NFL.. You look at film, you try and evaluate the players at the combine. But you never know what you have until they report to camp. Especially, once they start receiving those big paychecks for the first time. Hurney has a very good record at picking good draft picks. And as far as Robinson, you just have to hope a light goes off inside his head. Otherwise, he could be a lot like Vince Young, A. Hayneworth, J. Russell, Mike Williams (WR Detroit), and our own D. Jarrett.. It's the players that have to grow up, and realize they are men, and need to remind themselves, this is a business, and you are paid to show results, period.

Didn't all those guys you named actually PLAY???? How do you pop roids on the IR when you've never actually PLAYED???

And here's to you, Mr. Robinson,
Hurney loves you more than you will know (Wo wo wo).
Fox bless you, please, Mr. Robinson,
Coach holds a place for those who play (Hey hey hey, hey hey hey).

We'd like to know
A little bit about you
For our files.
We'd like to help you inject yourself.
Look around you. All you see
Are sympathetic eyes.
Roll around the grounds
Until you feel the burn.

And here's to you, Mr. Robinson,
Hurney loves you more than you will know (Wo wo wo).
Fox bless you, please, Mr. Robinson,
Coach holds a place for those who pray (Hey hey hey, hey hey hey).

Hide it in a hiding place
Where no one ever goes.
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes.
It's a little secret,
Just the Robinsons' affair.
Most of all, you've got to hide it
from the drug testers.

Coo coo ca-choo, Mr. Robinson,
Hurney loves you more than you will know (Wo wo wo).
Fox bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson,
Coach holds a place for those who play (Hey hey hey, hey hey hey).

Sitting on a sofa
On a Sunday afternoon,
Eating all cheetos you can take,
Laugh about it,
Shout about it,
When you've got to choose,
Every way you look at it, you lose.

Where have you gone, Jake Delhomme?
Panther nation turns its lonely eyes to you (Woo woo woo).
What's that you say, Mr. Robinson?
"Pick 6 Jake has left and gone away" (Hey hey hey, hey hey hey).

@Fatty McButterpants - they haven't specified what the substance was yet. There are several ingredients in some Cough medicines, weight loss pills, etc. that can trip a false positive on a drug test. Unless. they say what the substance was, we will never know, if it was drugs (marj., cocaine, etc) or anything legal over the counter, NFL's substance abuse policy does not mean just 'roids'.. Plus, the tests could have been given over several months ago, there is no time limit for the NFL to set the suspension.

The only substance that guy should be ingesting is salad dressing. And reduced fat at that. Anything else is unacceptable.

Posted by: Fatty McButterpants | Dec 10, 2010 6:42:41 PM

And the fact of the matter is, jokes aside, the NFL puts out a list of banned substances to every team, every player. They know exactly what they can and cannot use. To screw that up is ridiculous. Either you think you won't get caught and/or you are an idiot. Most normal people who are subjected to drug testing for say, government jobs know exactly what they can and can't do. When your body is how you make your living, you are costing yourself and your team. Spare me the "someone slipped something into my protein shake" (Raffy Palmeiro defense). It's a joke.

"Another one of our winning draft picks by Hurney".

Wow you make it sound like he was a 1st,2nd,3rd, or 4th rounder. He was a 5th round pick.

@Ghoul. Now THAT was well said, and done. Ya wanna contract(music, not football) ?

Wow! This is the first time I ever heard of a player on IR get suspended for steroids.

The no-name LB from the Nationalistic Farce (otherwise labeled "the Patriots") got suspended, which it was long overdue at least someone from that team did.

What I don't understand is how Poopers, someone who could not get past 290 for years with the Panthers (and when he did, he lost the wait in no time) somehow hits 300+ in just two months and manages to keep the weight throughout the season, does not get tested for roids! He's been guilty of it as soon as he entered the league, so he is definitely not above that.

On a directly related note, that Chicago organization is starting to seem pretty shady. Are they the new Pats? Will Poopers (vs Brady) become the new poster boy for the presidency?

"Wow you make it sound like he was a 1st,2nd,3rd, or 4th rounder. He was a 5th round pick."

Hey Dumb Ass,

You must be related to Marty Hurney or a friend of Don Gregory! Just add Robinson to the can't play list of players that Hurney and Gregory hav signed off on. Bad teams need all of their draft picks. Just because he was taken in the fifth round doesn't mean he shouldn't make the team.

A fifth rd pick should have fifth rd value. So don't be another Marty Hurney when it comes to selecting players for the Panthers.

Your the dumbass, they need a coach who can develop. Adjust along game pan for once. Does Carolina have any of thos qualitites? No. By the way (dumbass) i'm not related to Hurney or a friend of Dan G. Name a team who had hits on all there pick since i'm the dumbass?

"A fifth rd pick should have fifth rd value".

Key word you said is "should". Many 5th rounders are a either a back up, special team player, or cut before the season starts. Only a few you will find in the 5th or later rounder that has potential being a good or great player. If not he's a back up at best.

" So don't be another Marty Hurney when it comes to selecting players for the Panthers".

Don't be another jackass when it comes to posting. Every GM hit nad misses on their picks, but I guess some reasons he's the worst out of every GM in the league?
