« Rivera to get second interview | Main | Panthers close to finalizing deal with Rivera »

Neither snow nor sleet stop Rivera (update)

The winter conditions that have paralyzed much of Charlotte apparently haven't stopped the Carolina Panthers coaching search.

(Update: 2:05 p.m.) A league source has confirmed that San Diego defensive coordinator Ron Rivera is meeting Panthers officials today for his second interview. A team spokesman offered no comment when asked where the meeting was taking place, or whether owner Jerry Richardson general manager Marty Hurney or team president Danny Morrison were here or on the road.

Rivera is the only candidate known to have been asked in for a second interview, and when they hired John Fox in 2002, he was the only candidate to interview twice.

Stay tuned for more on this developing story.

Glazer is clearly speculating. He may end up being correct, but he is not reporting anything.

San Diego Tribune says it's a done deal.

This might be the best head coaching hire the team has ever made. Rivera played on the mythic '85 Bears squad, he's coached in the NFL for a very long time, and ought to immediately command the respect of the veterans in the locker room. I think Richardson and Co. have gone in the right direction, and by 2012 we should see some positive results.

So what is the difference between Ron Rivera and John Fox other than i'm guessing there salary demands ? Not a lot to get excited about here. Seems Richardson has been taking team-running lessons from the Bidwells.

As I have said in other places I don't understand the hurry. This guy hasn't interviewed anywhere else and no one seems to be chasing him. What is the big hurry?
