Davis not worried about Newton

Panthers LB Thomas Davis is cautiously optimistic a new CBA will be in place soon. But he said nothing will be official until players vote on the deal.

Davis said Tuesday he was skeptical about the Panthers holding a minicamp this weekend. Recently acquired tight end Jeremy Shockey told a website Monday he was told to prepare for a three-day minicamp in Charlotte this weekend.

I can't see that happening because, for one, how are you going to have a minicamp before free agency starts? Are they going to have a 12-hour free agency and then we report? I really don't understand how it's going to work,” Davis said during an appearance at Bobcats president Fred Whitfield's basketball camp.

But if Shockey wants to think that's going to happen, then so be it.”

Davis said he's kept tabs on some of the younger players during the lockout to make sure they're working out and staying in shape. He did not need to do so with No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton.

You don't have to worry about Cam. You look at Cam, they're reporting what he's doing on the news every other week,” Davis said. “So we know that Cam is working out, he's staying in shape. We know (former Panthers QB Chris) Weinke is down there taking care of Cam” at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla.

I gotta say, Cam is starting to win me over. If he keeps putting football first and forgets about being an icon/entertainer, then those things will come. Just work hard, focus, and win and its all good. I am really excited about what he might be able to do with our running game as well.

I hope they keep Davis and Anderson. But I have something else to comment about. I hope the Panthers offense knows whats in store for them. Look at the size of coach Chuds playbook. I bet they got nothing that looks like this monster during the lift of the lockout. Go to 0:50 if you just want to see the playbook.

There he goes again. Newton will never start in the NFL. If he does it will be short lived. No real QB skills. He cant pass and he wont run and cant slide feet first. Interception city. Maybe they will sign Jake or Favre for a short season. Stop looking so stupid with all the idiot worthless hype noone buys.

Maybe Newton could give up football and learn to play fiddle.

I was kiddin. I predict that THIS season, Panthers - with Cam Newton at the helm - will go 16-0 in the reg season, and then win the superbowl by at least 40 points.

Yall need to give him a chance. Yall only read what the media let's you read. Im from Charlotte and went to auburn. Cam was one of the hardest working players. He always put the team first. So give him a chance. Yall are dogging the kid before he even threw one pass. Get off yalls high horse. It's not like y'all haven't ever done anything wrong

Cornbread when did you find out that the computer finally had the internet. Must be a steeler fan or a redskin fan? Move back home soon!

the best part about the lockout is that davis and otah haven't broken their knees yet this season and we're almost to august.

no way newton is worse than clausen was last year. it's not possible. and HIS family didn't even have to pay mel kiper to boost his draft status.

Exactly what has Cam done on the field yet to win anybody over yet except these UA fans hyping him up?..Btw Cam won't start unless Clausen is like last year ,because i guarantee ole Jimmy knows the playbook ,and Cam don't have the big rookie contract that used to but time anymore at 4yrs 22mil thats NOT making a place anymore ,and if he's not good out of the box he'll be gone by yr 2 just like Clausen will!

Cam has proven everyone wrong so far ! That's all I know. You naysayers might be eating your negative words very soon!

NCAA tells Gene Chizik that the investigation into Cam is not over and that they'll know it when they're through.

Joe:
Is Davis not still under contract? You had a piece about it before the because of him being on the PUP list the last year of his contract carries over to this year?

Of course Davis wants his payday so he pretend it is not so. And if the Panthers use this option, there is no way he will sign next year so they might give him a new contract regardless?

The FBI still invest Scam and Pappy and obv Auburn will lose its NCAA title and the Heisman will be taken. Fluke.

There are rumors still about Auburn paying off Alabama and other SEC teams to throw the games to furthur dilute this entire short 15 mins of fame.

Urban Meyer quit twice over the scandal and its still not clear why Newton vanished his sr year in HS after 5 games. He played only 2 yrs with 2500 yds & 23 tds as a jr but only 1500 yds and no tds as a sr. Florida still signed him but he was kicked out after cheating 3 times & laptop theft & 3rd string going to a flunkie community college in Texas.

Was the NCAA title rigged in 2010? FBI & NCAA still invest.

Most of the people that hate Cam in this area are butthurt USC fans that not only lost to Auburn not once but twice and the second time was a beatdown.

I'm not proclaiming Cam as a savior on the field but everything personality wise we were "warned" about seems to have been shot down.

some of u guys really need to listen to what you write, go back to college or something..a bunch of idiots..give the guy a chance is all i say..

I hope Jerry Jones spend that money this year to keep Deangelo Williams and Charles Johnson.

Cam has completely won me over. His work ethic is obvious. That is the one thing they can't teach. He has probowler written all over him. Not this year of course, but down the road a few years.
