Post-lockout, Moore looks for a team

This time a year ago, Matt Moore was preparing for training camp as the Panthers' starting quarterback.

A year later -- following the end of the four-month lockout -- Moore is just trying to find a team.

Moore, an unrestricted free agent, said he doesn't know where he'll end up. But he said he would have a better feel Thursday when teams are allowed to begin releasing players and he can see who might need a quarterback.

Moore said he would be open to remaining with the Panthers. But that's not likely to happen.

After a terrific stretch at the end of the 2009 season in place of the injured Jake Delhomme, Moore struggled with turnovers early last season after being handed the starting job. He was benched in favor of rookie Jimmy Clausen, came back and played well in a win against San Francisco, then sustained a season-ending shoulder injury.

He said his agents would have "their ears to the ground to figure out what the best place would be, if it's not here."

And if it's not here, what will Moore remember?

"I loved it. I had great times here. I played with great players that are now friends of mine and will be for a long time," he said. "I experienced some highs and some lows. I was in an awesome place. Saying that, it's hard to think you'll be somewhere else as a player. But that's kind of how this business goes. Hoopefully, it can continue. But if not, we'll try to emulate that experience somewhere else."

That really stinks. Loved Matt Moore. Maybe he wasn't going to be the next Brady, but i surely would rather have him starting than freaking Clausen.

If any team in the league is still crazy enough to think Jimmy can play, we should orchestrate a trade immediately and resign Moore. I would be happy with any offers... Two gatorade jugs for Clausen? Done. A six pack of Schlitz and a nice greeting card? Heck yeah.

Thanks for everything Matt, hope you land on your feet.

Alright Joe Person. You best get ready now that the Lockout is over. There's gonna be a hell of a lot of work for you to do. :p

Before the season last year, I said if Moore struggles and Clausen wasn't ready, the Panthers will struggle. I was wrong, the Panthers stunk.
I don't care if the Panthers bring in 1985 versions of Montana or Marino, without a serious WR set, they will continue to stink.
Keep Moore, Steve Smith and sign SIDNEY RICE.
You can't play defensive football with a crappy offense.
The Panthers are 9-51 in their last 60 when they have scored 20 points or less.
Mr. Richardson, it's time to open up your wallet. Hurney, it's time to hustle and bring some talent in here.
Maybe then you can get the upper deck filled with fans.

Moore and Clausen are both cowards! You hit 'em and they fold like cardboard!

More accurately Hurney has no front office presence which made Jake rich, and led to the Panthers drafting QB's 2 years in a row, kinda like a Matt Millen starter kit. The pourous o-line might mean 3 in a row next year. Gross was out when Moore was playing well. He was beat like a drum last year. If the line isn't fixed, we may see Newton, Clausen and Pike play. Moore has to go because to keep him would embarass Hurney.

We will never know how good he could have been here. He looked good when Fox didn't have time to force his vanilla offense onto him and had to let him do it his way the previous year. Very few QB's look good with the play action style that Fox insisted we ran every year.

That said, I admit that I overestimated his talent. He was a better overall QB than Clausen, but that doesn't say much. Staying uninjured is a big part of the job and he got hurt a lot while here.

Clausen has no trade value and we will have to keep him as he is paid for this year. But he will not win the job over Cam, no way...at least I hope not.

Whoever says that our O-line S.T.U.N.K. and that they are the prime reason for our horrible!! 2010 has their head...in the right place!! Go back and watch the tapes (if you can bear it). PATHETIC O-line. They had every QB scrambling for their life! And with all of them being green - as an NFL QB - and little/no chemistry with the WRs, they could not make effective hot reads. Combine that with a coach who mailed it in and what do you get?!? A recipe for RRRP (run-run-run-punt).

This does one thing over the course of a game and a season - taxes the defense. Voila! 2-14. The defense didn't have a prayer and, quite honestly, they played harder and longer into the season on FUMES than I thought possible. And said nothing! Kudos to the D.

We are supposed to have a run-oriented, road-grading O-line (even the reserves)?!? Take the O-line injuries out the equation...I just don't see it. Chemistry with the O-line? What chemistry!! Michael Bates, heck Bob Hayes, could not have outrun those jailbreaks we let happen. Again, watch the tapes! Proof is right there!

Personal note to Big Cat JR: you stuck your hand in our pockets last year (BIG time!), stick it in your own this year and pay to get us in the playoffs! Who knows, we could end up playing Dallas at home again in the first round.

Trade Claussen for a bottle of gatorade and keep Moore.

Keep Matt Moore over Jimmy Clausen!! He's proven himself and with a sound line and add a high calibar WR (Sidney Rice??) I think he could be successful giving Cam time to learn the system before being thrown to the wolves.
