Report: Shockey says deal by Thursday

Panthers tight end Jeremy Shockey told the Web site Busted Coverage players have been informed a deal to end the NFL lockout is imminent and the Panthers could hold a minicamp as soon as this weekend.

The deal will be done Thursday and we’re being told to report to Charlotte for a three-day camp the 22nd through 25th,” Shockey told the website.

A source close to the player said Shockey spoke to the website, and there was no reason to question the accuracy of the report. (The 22nd through 25th would be four days, but who's counting?)

Two other Panthers players have not yet heard anything about a minicamp this weekend.

Shockey did not immediately respond to a message from the Observer.

I'll be there. Can I bring Jake Delhomme?

I wonder who would be reporting. I assume only contracted players, but I wonder if free agents and/or rookies would be there too.

Was that a blip on the pulse machine? Wow!

Can't wait for this team, with Cam starting, to play pissed off.

TV cable bills for the entire nation just quietly jumped 20% in July. Did you notice? Gas rising. Food rising. Guess who pays for this pro trash? 15 trillion debt in DC.

Greedy thievin extortionists. And then theres that sorry scam draft pick still under fed investigation.

The way ESPN reports it, the players should be meeting Wednesday to review the agreement and re-certify as a union, then vote to ratify, and the owners meet Thursday to ratify the deal. The league year would begin Friday 7/22, and teams have Friday, Saturday and Sunday to sign any of their free agents before they are eligible to test the market, which would be Monday. If there's a mini-camp, it would probably be Saturday - Monday.

I hope all of this is correct. I'm ready for football. I'm sick to death of watching every single Yankees, Red Sox and Braves game being nationally televised and those being the only teams we get to watch around here. Bring on football!!!!!!!!!

Anytime you read about new tv sports contract deals you can bend over and touch your toes cuz it aint owners or players footing the bill. Long gone are the days when ticket prices paid for anything other than the light bill today except in high school or Pop Warner.

Even Barack Obama has said over and over nobody should make more than half a million salary. He must have forgot about pro athletes.

i'm taking action on the steve smith vs. jeremy shockey fight that is bound to happen at some point.

if shockey is healthy, that really does provide a number 2 receiver for us.

i agree the shockey/smith combosmith can be deadly, with cam bootleg to williams or stewart or goodson on a screen pass can be deadly as well..gettis will play some wr as well.can anybody vision that..our offense will be better, i see at least 8-8..
