Is there a reason we are not considering Pat Williams on the D-line? Tell me he wouldn't be an improvement and a mentor to Fua and McClain. A one-year deal would be perfect and virtually risk-free.

maybe he doesn't want to play here.

After reading many posts about Newton's QB play in preseason, it cracks me up how many fans blame the OL blocking and receivers not getting open and dropping passes. Part of the blame should go on the OL and receivers, but part should go on Newton too. Newton looks awkward in the pocket.

Newton fails to slide back farther when his blockers fall back trying to protect him, he ends up bumping into his own blockers while trying to throw the ball. He doesn't set his feet, but instead looks like he's trying to tap dance with his happy feet. He even tried to do a half turn jump pass. I don't know if he'll ever get to the point that he looks natural in the pocket along with seeing some accuracy in his passes on a consistent basis.

When Clausen plays these same fans weren't cutting him any slack with blaming his poor performance on the OL and receivers. Newton also has more to work with than Clausen had last season. Newton has two better pass catching TEs in Olsen and Shockey, a better OC in Chud, a veteran QB on the roster in Anderson, and a much better QB coach in Shula.

Plus Newton has better support from the owner, coaching staff and players. Steve Smith took time to work with Newton in the off-season while publicly giving Newton praise. The only thing Smith was willing to to help Clausen was to publicly state that Clausen should be apologizing to the offense. Something tells me that Smith won't be dissing Newton like he did Jake and Clausen if Newton plays bad too.

Toronto Sun: Newton looks good off field, not on

Newton is a practice star only

He is like the Hurricane. Whole lot of hype but does little damage.

Pretty bad analogy considering the devastation on the NC coast currently.

well if he doesn't want to play here apparently he only wants to play with himself because the guy doesn't have a job at the moment.
