Charles Godfrey out for Panthers

The Panthers will be without all three of their defensive captains today with strong safety Charles Godfrey out with a concussion sustained last week against Green Bay.

The Panthers lost starting linebackers Jon Beason (Achilles) and Thomas Davis (knee) to season-ending injuries in successive weeks. Godfrey didn't practice all week, so his inclusion on the inactive list is not a surprise.

Jordan Pugh, who has given up a couple of big plays the first two weeks, will replace Godfrey in the lineup.

The rest of the Panthers' inactives: QB Jimmy Clausen, WR Kealoha Pilares, OL Lee Ziemba, TE Ben Hartsock and their two newest rosters additions -- DT Frank Kearse and LB Jason Phillips.

Hartsock, the designated blocking TE, played the first two weeks. But Richie Brockel can play both fullback and tight end, giving the Panthers some flexibility behind tight ends Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey.

Jacksonville will be without their top two left defensive ends -- Aaron Kampman and Matt Roth. Austen Lane will start for the Jags.
