LB Jason Phillips gets another start

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said outside linebacker Jason Phillips will remain in the starting lineup after getting his first start Sunday in the 33-20 win over Washington.

Phillips, claimed off waivers from Baltimore last month, had two tackles against the Redskins.

Rivera said linebacker Omar Gaither is improving from the sprained right knee that has sidelined him the past two weeks, and might have a chance to play this week.

Safety Jordan Pugh, who sat out Sunday, remains in the NFL's concussion protocol.

Rivera said the Panthers had no other major injuries in Sunday's game.

The Panthers face Minnesota (1-6) this week in the second game of a three-game homestand.

Rivera wants the Panthers to cut down on their penalties after being whistled 13 times against the Redskins, third most in team history. Rivera took the blame for the three offsides call on defensive linemen because he preached last week about the importance of getting off the ball quickly.

He was not pleased with the personal foul penalites, including the one on linebacker Thomas Williams that extended a Redskins' scoring drive.

ME Tooo! I really like him alot, also.

Anyway... "Chud" called a good game, not having Cam in "Shotgun" as much and the running using Felton, Smitty, all the guys. Not having Cam in "Shotgun" so much I think will be the difference later.

As far as the "D" goes, We are getting killed on first and 2nd down. McClain is showing something. FUA!! is getting moved where ever they want him, unless this changes it's going to be tough.

Just my opinion that is all.

Yes, how could ANYBODY hate Newton and his spotless 2-5 record and more interceptions than any player in the league outside of Josh Freeman.
