Brandon LaFell could play more vs. Colts
Panthers fans who have been clamoring for receiver Brandon LaFell to get more passes thrown to him might get their wish.
With No. 2 receiver Legedu Naanee questionable for Sunday's game at Indianapolis with Achilles tendinitis, LaFell would get the start if Naanee can't play, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said today.
LaFell, a second-year wideout from LSU, has caught 21 passes for 345 yards this season – compared to 33 receptions for 355 yards for Naanee.
But LaFell is averaging 16.4 yards a catch, second on the team behind Steve Smith's 17.7-yard average.
“Most of his big plays obviously came in certain situations where the ball's being pushed downfield and that's where Brandon can shine,” Rivera said.
But if Naanee is sidelined, LaFell would have to run more of the short, crossing routes in traffic that have been Naanee's specialty.
Said Rivera: “It'll be interest to see how he handles it.”
As for the rest of the Panthers' injury report, LB Omar Gaither (knee sprain) did not practice today and is doubtful for Sunday. Jordan Senn, who started last week in place of injured middle linebacker Dan Connor, would take over Gaither's weakside spot vs. the Colts.
Connor (neck stinger) is probable.
Backup LB Jason Phillips (calf) is questionable, while LB James Anderson (ankle) and DE Charles Johnson (shoulder) are probable.

I think it's funny to hear "Naanee" and "speciality" in the same sentence.

Joe Cool: I hope so. Been waiting for LaFell to get a chance at more reps. Seems like when he's on the field, he makes plays. Oh and doesn't drop the ball 50% of the time!

Now ... what can be done about DeAngelo Williams? More Jonathan Stewart, who still has some fire in him?

make it hard for the other team play both at the same time! Stewart go left D Will go right on passing plays! Make them cover both backs! Stewart's best runs have come when he's playing fullback! Put your best players on the field!
