Dan Connor questionable with shoulder injury

Another week, another injured linebacker for the Panthers.

Middle linebacker Dan Connor was scheduled to get X-rays on his shoulder today and is questionable for Sunday's game at Detroit, coach Ron Rivera said.

The Panthers already have three linebackers on injured reserve – starters Jon Beason and Thomas Davis and backup Thomas Williams. Omar Gaither missed two weeks with a knee injury, and Jason Phillips has missed several weeks with a calf strain.

Asked about the linebacker situation if Connor can't play, Rivera said: “Depleted, at best.”

Jason Williams and Jordan Senn would split reps if Connor is out, while Gaither and James Anderson will remain at the outside spots.

Tight end Jeremy Shockey is listed as doubtful with sore ribs. Shockey didn't practice all week after taking a shot on the Panthers' first play last week against Tennessee.

Rookie cornerback Brandon Hogan, who experienced swelling and soreness in his surgically-repaired knee, is questionable.

Did Hogan play last week? I didn't remember seeing/hearing his name.

My Lord! Would love to say all this injury Karma is building up for next year.

play the nickle defense! Detroit is going to help us by passing more than they run!

The nickel? I don't think so that would guarantee Sherrod "Weak Effort" Martin would be on the field. Jordan Pugh may suck at coverage but at least he can make a tackle.

When will a sports reporter ask Conner what he knew about Sandusky at Penn State? Conner was suspended after a police investigation of him making dozens of prank calls to Sandusky. What were those calls about? Did Conner know, and if a junior on the football team knew, then everyone knew.

@Ghoul - You're wrong about who Conner was making prank calls to... reportedly they were to retired coach Joe Sarra, not Sandusky.

Who really cares...noting but excuses

And yet former Panther LB Will Witherspoon was on the field for the Titans. The same guy we didn't resign so we could keep Dan "Glass Body" Morgan. He hasn't been injured much and has started for the Rams and now the Titans since. Just another example of the poor job done by Hurney.

Agree, Hurney and Fox missed the boat on Witherspoon-

Anybody else notice how much Joe Person looks like JP Giglio?

One thing is certain, both are Carolina homers through and through.

Dan Connor is best his position in the ground. I think panthers will miss his experience. Anyways I hope coach will take the right decision and will choose right player for Dan replace. Thanks :)

@Sportsdon - really 5 years later you are still harping on them letting Witherspoon go as a FA. If he was so good, why does he keep getting cut or traded from each team, Eagles (1 yr), Rams(3 yrs) and now he is with Tenn(1+ yr). He has never made the pro-bowl, and he is over 30+ now. James Anderson is better now then Witherspoon ever was here. Let's see who drafted Beason(3 x pro-bowler), Thomas Davis, and Anderson..? oh yeah, Hurney.. Sounds like a good draft of LB's to me.. With no OTA's this year, all the injuries were bound to happen, it's rampant all over the NFL. So give it a rest.. Injuries happen in football..!!
