Lions' Stafford knows what Newton is going through

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford knows what Carolina's Cam Newton is going through.

Stafford was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, charged with helping re-chart the direction of a franchise that was coming off the first 0-16 season in league history. Newton was handed a team that won two games last season and, while the 2-7 record so far is disappointing, his progress has exceeded expectations.

Even tough Sundays like the 30-3 loss to Tennessee last week are part of the process, Stafford knows.

"As a rookie, every week is a learning process," Stafford said on a conference call this week. "You're seeing a team for the first time every time. You're seeing a new D-coordinator, seeing new schemes, new players for the first time so it's difficult.

"It's something you have to play through. He's doing a heckuva job. He's having a fantastic year. He's fun to watch and he'll be fine."

Stop making excuses for the bum. He cheated and stole his way up lied and made pay for play big cash and is lucky as hell to be "handed" any team much less an NFL team the way he went about it.

He was a ONE HIT wonder only unless you idiots forgot purposefully. Auburn was his only success and it clearly appears they paid not only him off to play but other teams to lose and probably the NCAA to ditch the investigation.

He does NOT have a stellar illustrious career of success to look or fall back on. Community college does not count as these are not even athletes and he only went there because he was kicked out of Florida for cheating and being a thief causing Urban Meyer to have to resign because if him to save his own career since he mistakenly recruited him.

Now he is YOUR spoiled rotten brat loser way over his head and out of his league. Too funny.

ps Attention all Ds and Suh. Stop the "soft"tackling on this rook. We need real bone crushing skull smashing body crunching on this pretender. We DEMAND injury !!!!

Motown fan.

You are an idiot.

Be careful wishing for an injury on a qb with brittle bones Stafford under center.

That is all

@ motown fan,

You are a complete moron! How about you keep your mouth shut and actually go to a message board where people care about your sorry trash talking. You clearly can't debate as your statements are pretty baseless. Quite sad you're coming into a Carolina Panthers message board from the Charlotte Observer newspaper to make that lame comment.
