« Titans 20, Panthers 3, end of 3rd quarter | Main | Ron Rivera: Injuries have hurt special teams »

Where do the Panthers go from here?

Give Jordan Gross credit for trying to inject a bit of humor into the otherwise grim Panthers' locker room Sunday after their woeful 30-3 loss to Tennessee.

Asked where the Panthers go from here, Gross quipped, "I think we go to Detroit, right?"

   Right.

Then to Indianapolis. Then to Tampa Bay.

There is no easy part to the Panthers' schedule but the relatively soft part -- three straight home games with an off week squeezed in -- turned into a 1-2 month that produced far more frustration than satisfaction. Now it's all about going on the road and trying to put together the kind of overall performance they had trouble creating at home.

If you subscribe to the theory that every team has a stinker during the season, then this was the Panthers. Start to finish, it was flat and discouraging.

The flip side of the stinker theory is every team has one superior performance in them and the Panthers have not had that one yet. Maybe they won't have it this year. Maybe it's somewhere down the line.

For all the talk about starting the second half of the season on a strong note, it didn't work out that way. Detroit seems an odd place to go to find what's missing but that's what the Panthers now face.

COLTS will get their first win against this sorry a$$ team. I hope the Owner and GM have a nice Holiday!

Posted by: Scott | Nov 13, 2011 7:17:07 PM

This team is horrible. Special teams are the worst I've ever seen in the NFL. If the Colts do manage to beat us in Indy, we just might end up with the #1 pick. Then somebody will trade us the farm for it, and maybe we can get some players who can PLAY!!!

Cam, Smitty, Kalil, Beason, CJ, Gross, Olson (although he sucked today), & either DWill or JStew are the only players I would def keep on this team. Everyone else better step it up NOW or find themselves with a pink slip.

Posted by: WeReallySuck | Nov 13, 2011 7:37:08 PM

True..the special teams(with the exception of the kickers) are horrific. Starting both halves the way the panthers did killed any chance for momentum. Also...look for the Detroit defense with Suh and Avril to follow the Titans lead.

Posted by: Phil57 | Nov 13, 2011 7:49:29 PM

don't leave our kickers out, they both suck too...thanks alot Hurney for filling our roster with such talented players...Marty, please do the decent thing & resign before the draft so we can start to get some real players

Posted by: bull123 | Nov 13, 2011 8:26:53 PM

What a STINKIN MESS. Hurney & Richardson PLEASE SELL THE TEAM to someone who cares about the fans and football in general.

The CO local media said the answer for the Panthers was to get a new QB and coach. A Qb who could put up some big fantasy football type numbers. Well the Broncos just won their fourth game today and my Qb had 0 passing yards at the half but we still won with good defense, running game and special teams. So Panthers CO media, how is that fantasy QB working out for ya? "Duh winning" John Foxxy

Posted by: The Truth | Nov 13, 2011 10:15:05 PM

Hey Truth, you can have Foxxy and Tebow (although I like Tebow). Cam didn't have a bad game, he had a bad GAME plan courtesy of Chudzinski. Chud called 12 running plays for Deangelo and J Stew. Just plain dumb to stay with the pass when that's what the Titans were focusing on. (Obviously Panthers' special teams and the D need the most help)

I still feel that the future is bright in Carolina, but it's becoming very clear that we not only have a rookie QB, but also a rookie head coach. Rivera did a terrible job getting this team ready to play after the bye week, they were flat in every aspect of the game.
I lay this one at Rivera's feet, they were not ready to play, not even close.

Mike Goodson can turn this team around.Put him back in Rivera.

Losing now equals winning for years later with the strong draft position this will give us. We need a speed guy for punt returns (kickoffs don't matter anymore) and guys in the secondary that can make plays on the ball not just tackle after the catch.
Just be patient and it will all work out, just not this year folks.

Hey "Truth", here's some truth for you. Tebow (and I like him too) is a wildcat QB. For every pass like that TD, he throws 10 that can't hit the side of a barn. Wait until teams start stacking the box & forcing him to beat them with his arm, not gonna happen.

Remember Dan Henning basically invented the wildcat under Fox 5 years ago with DWill because Jake was hurt he didn't trust Weinke to throw. He went 4-7 for 37 yards & 1 TD (Tebow numbers!), but we steamrolled them for almost 200 yds rushing and the Panthers won. Sound familiar??

That was at the end of the season and it was a gimmick, no way it would have worked for the long haul. If the Donks don't start at least occasionally cycling in Orton or Quinn as a legitimate passing threat, there are gonna be a lot more games ahead for them like Detroit 2 weeks ago.

I think Cam should go back to school and learn the English language.

That's embarrasing . Listening to him say he does no know what regression means. Relapse to less than perfect.

Cams errogance shown in his post game tells volumes. By the way Jimmy Clausen had 2 wins with an awufull team. Oh by the way he can communicate and understand those big words.

Welcome to the NFL

lol, "errogance"

Time to get rid of Hurney and bring in Parcells to run team!

Posted by: joe cool | Nov 14, 2011 2:02:06 AM

I love how people cry about getting a punt returner! First you have to stop somebody to make them punt! It's like buying windshield wipers for a car with no windows! Our fan base is just as stupid as Hurney! Let's go out and get a guy for two punt returns a game but never bring in run stoppers! Can't stop the run and have no inside push in the middle! The sad thing is we could have drafted Hester and a lot of great players! We need a new scouting department! How the hell is your special teams bad every year and never get it fixed? How many defensive tackles have we went through since Kris Jenkins left? How many wide receivers have we went through when we needed a new QB instead! How the hell can all your second round picks be a bust and not even on your roster? The front office is garbage! Plain and simple!

the Panthers should go directly to the Charlotte Observer and tell them that the worst sport reporter the the state of NC is no longer allowed in the dressing room of the Panthers. The writers if this blog are great but Fowler needs to go

A million perv waterboy mornic know nothing postings solve nothing and as bad as 10 months of nauseating useless hype for some college sophomore one hit wonder Auburn dropout who conned his way up using pc mafioso tactics.

YOUR ANSWER?

** A N D E R S O N **

ps Luck just lost his first game Sat after 17 wins against the Oregon Ducks who actually beat Auburn last yr except for a last second FG that started the whole Slop mess.

Is that a Word Search game? I don't see any actual sentences, so it must be.

Hurney and Richardson are laughing all the way to the bank. They could care less about winning. It is all about making the dollars. We will never be competetive with JR at the helm. He has not had the mind for it since his illness. He is nothing but a scared old angry man now who is trying to stick it to the fans.

Posted by: I know | Nov 14, 2011 9:54:26 AM

Of course Jordan Gross is happy. The Panthers have finally found an offensive lineman(B. Bell) who gets called for more false starts and holding penalties than Gross. There is even a chance that this year Gross will not lead the NFL in holding and false start penalties.

Pick Luck ,The other team's have figured him out ,and that's just the BAD one's

Posted by: Rae Carruth | Nov 14, 2011 11:48:02 AM

Cam has run his course ,Rivera is NO better than Fox ,and this team is as bad as last years team even with a Better offensive scheme and a healthy Oline ,healthy 89 ,and 2 probowl TE's + both RB's are healthy = bad head coach and BAD draft = BAD team!

Posted by: John Fox | Nov 14, 2011 11:51:55 AM

@ John Fox ,your right Cam has turned into a turn over machine ,and the HC is WORSE than Fox which makes Hurney draft even worse...JR needs to sell the team to Bruton Smith ,he'll get rid of the dead weight and bring us fans a winner.

After reading all these negative finger pointing posts, it is great to see the Panthers have such loyal and devoted fans. (Yeah right)
