Panthers missing two DBs vs. Bucs

As expected, the Panthers will face Tampa Bay today without two starting defensive backs.

Strong safety Charles Godfrey, who was listed as doubtful with a shoulder injury, was among the Panthers' inactives for today's game. Jordan Pugh will start in place of Godfrey.

R.J. Stanford will step in for cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, who was was placed on injured reserve Friday after pulling his hamstring last week at Houston. Panthers coach Ron Rivera had indicated Darius Butler would start at corner.

But Stanford played well in the win over the Texans, when he filled in at corner, safety and nickel back.

The rest of the Panthers' inactives are: QB Jimmy Clausen, K Adi Kunalic, WR Seyi Ajirotutu, LB Omar Gaither, C Jeff Byers and DE Eric Norwood.

Rookie WR Darvin Adams is active for the first time this season.

The Bucs will be without both starting defensive tackles. Albert Haynesworth (knee) and Brian Price (ankle), who were listed as questionable, are inactive.

Roy Miller and Frank Okam will start on the defensive interior, which the Panthers' fifth-ranked rushing offense likely will try to exploit.

The rest of the Bucs' inactives: QB Rudy Carpenter, S Larry Asante, DE Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, T Derek Hardman and T James Lee.
