Cam Newton featured on ESPN special this week

With his rookie season over, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton apparently is doing more national media.

Newton, who limited his media availability during his first NFL season, will be among four of the league's biggest personalities featured on SportsCenter Special: NFL Face to Face with Hannah Storm at 9 p.m. Tuesday  on ESPN2.

The one-hour special will include interviews with Newton, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Detroit defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and Colts owner Jim Irsay.

In the segment with Newton, Storm visits the Welcome All Park outside of Atlanta where Newton began his football career as a youth. An ESPN release says Newton apologizes during the piece for his behavior after the Panthers' loss at Atlanta -- where Newton left the field without shaking hands with anyone -- and discusses the criticism he faced prior to last year's draft.

Storm also broaches the subject of Cecil Newton's pay-for-play scheme when Newton was leaving junior college, according to the release.

As long as his face is on camera, he could care less about winning or losing. Trade this bum and get a winner. We do not need little girl wanna be TV stars on our team. He and those like him are what is wrong with the NFL. Soon enough it will be just like the NBA.

All Cam has ever done is win. When the D decides to show up that will continue in Carolina. What do u mean just like the nba. That young black males are the best players. I got news for you. The already are. Plus Cam does very few interview so it must not be all about being on t.v..

First guy who posted. You have no idea what you are talking about. Because of CAM people are talking about the panthers and the dude hides out doesnt even want to do TV. you're an internet bum.

To the creep named "It's all about Cam".

Take a hike you "Negative Nellie". It's obvious you are jealous and certainly not a Carolina Panther fan.

After watching Cam's embarrassing performance at the Pro Bowl, were he reverted to his preseason bad habits and forgot to tuck his shirt in, I'm still not sold on him being the long-term future of the Panthers. Not because he doesn't have talent or charisma, but because he doesn't appear to be a natural leader and may never develop the good habits and fundamentals a pro quarterback needs to succeed.

Sure, he had some impressive games as a rookie, but the real test will be how he does in terms of addressing his weaknesses when he has all the advantages of organized team activities and coaching during the off-season. Then we'll see how he performs next September when much will be expected of him.

Ignore the troll ... sometimes they go away.

Anyone that judges Cam's play by his performance in the Pro Bowl is just plain clueless and shouldn't be allowed to comment on football related articles! With a full offseason, I would get comfy and pop some popcorn for next year. A healthy Panthers team will be a scary Panthers team! Holla!

some of you guys are just plain ignorant knuckleheads.

What too many black guys making good money for your liking? Why don't you go to a Tea-Party or Klan rally, maybe a good ole boy Coon hunt will do you some good.

Posted by: Chaz | Jan 31, 2012 9:51:56 AM

These Cam haters didn't even watch the damn Pro-Bowl, nobody does. They just read his shirt wasn't tucked in, give me a damn break. You are the same hatin,Tea-Party loving, yahoos that didn't want Cam drafted in the first place. You hatin fools wanted to draft Blaine Gabbert or trade for Kevin Kolb. Screw you, go away. Go support the Falcons or Redskins or something. Panther Nation will be just fine without you.

Posted by: Chaz | Jan 31, 2012 9:58:43 AM

I'm one of those people who was pretty hopeless before the season. I never thought Cam would be a elite QB. I'm happy to eat crow. I'm not sure how anyone could complain about Cam after the season he had.

He still has to get better, but if you're still hating on the face of our franchise you're an idiot.

I don't understand how you could not like Cam Newton if you are a Panthers fan. This guy took the worst offense in the NFL & made it one of the best without any offseason. He accounted for 4,700 yards of total offense & 35 TDs without truly understanding how to play the QB position. Once he gets his footwork right and a little more experience it is hard to imagine how unbelieveable he will be. Once the Panthers straighten out the D the "bum" will probably win us a Super Bowl. I would not be surprised if that happens next year.

Had Cam done well in the pro bowl, the pro bowl would have mattered. It natters... many NFL fans do watch this to see their favorite players, and Cam simply embarrassed himself badly. Hopefully as he gains veteran status, his glib attitude he displayed in Hawaii won't become a feature, along with pouting and moping when things aren't going as he expects.

Most rookies are humble and unassuming. When one isn't, watch out for personality problems down the line.

Posted by: BB | Jan 31, 2012 2:11:07 PM

What is the deal with all this talk about Cam's pro bowl performance? Did you notice how the D-line of the AFC did not even attempt to put any pressure on Brees or Rodgers in the first half? They did not even try to fake it. It was so obvious that anyone without an agenda to Cam-hate would have to acknowledge it. Another point I have not seen addressed about Cam and the pro bowl is that Cam's style of setting up passes with his running prowess seems to not fit well with the pro bowl style (at least how it played out this year) of faking a pass rush to give quarterbacks unrealistic time in the pocket to find receivers. That is until Cam came to quarterback. Then it seemed that while the offensive line continued to play at what appeared to be 50-60%, the AFL D-line turned it up to 75 to 95%. Pathetically it seemed that the O-line really didn't try to block for Cam. Finally I have to say that it was one of the most surreal football games I have ever seen. The acting was worse than professional wrestling. It actually made me sick to watch it.

While the first guy who posted is clearly not very intelligent, the ones bringing race into are just as dumb! He did not mention race whatsoever, so quit playing that card. It's plain stupid & ridiculous, and you sound just as idiotic! The NBA does have more than it's share of thugs, in all races. I still like the NBA, but anyone should be able to admit that. I'm very optimistic about Cam Newton & the future of the Panthers! Hope he continues to improve so he can help take the Panthers back to the Super Bowl one day!

Posted by: Jay | Jan 31, 2012 5:35:15 PM

LOL, Cam Newton, love him or hate him, you're gonna have redneck idiots who sit at their computer all day looking for a chance to bash someone. I love Cam Newton, personally. I don't pay much attention to his interviews, when he actually does one, because he's 22 years old. He's not 32. If I were being interviewed at 22, I'd say a lot of dumb stuff compared to what he's responding with. I'd be all like, "Man, forget them haters, haters gonna hate. Watch me do my thang, fa show. Gon' be fireworks for sure, better get ya popcorn ready!" He's enjoying his life, and his profession, and you just can't hate anyone for that.

Posted by: el | Jan 31, 2012 7:59:58 PM

Lol @chaz apparently you didn't see that when Cam was at auburn he supported the tea party..... kinda ironic!

Posted by: Herman | Jan 31, 2012 9:34:03 PM

To the one who went by " It is all about Cam, first of all it is clear that you are not a Carolina Panther fan nor have you ever been one so why are you even here, besides to show your hatred and ignorance. During the football season Cam tried to stay away drom the media, not the way you tried to paint the picture. True Panthers love the effort and hard work he put in for our team and see how mucch helped lift up the team and his teammates. He made mistakes but most rookies make mistakes even veterans make mistakes especally qbs but all in all he did a heck of a job so haters hate all you want but must you come to our site where you do not belong?

Nice try Skip Bayless & Mike Florio's illegitimate child, but we all know it's you behind the handle "Its All About Cam".
