Where does Rivera rank in SN coaches list?

The Sporting News has published its rankings of NFL head coaches, from No. 1 (Tom Coughlin) through 32 (Joe Vitt).

The Panthers' Ron Rivera comes in at 21, with the following comment: "Having Cam Newton gives him plenty of hope for the future. A .500 season would be another step in the right direction."

Interestingly, Rivera is ranked just below Norv Turner, who hired Rivera in San Diego after the Bears let him go.

Former Panthers coach John Fox is ranked seventh after leading the Broncos to the playoffs in his first season while taking advantage of Tim Tebow's unique skill set.

John Fox at #7? I can't wait to see the comments on that!

"It is what it is."

Not a Panthers fan but even I dislike John Fox. No way should he be at 7.

LOL, Yea right. John Fox couldn't coach a Pee Wee ball team to back to back winning seasons.

WOW !!!!!!!

John Fox - 1st down - run up middle - 2nd down - run to the right - 3rd down - run to left - 4th down - Punt. Who Agrees?

Fox's stock will certainly rise when he finally gets that elusive back to back winning seasons, gift wrapped in a #18 jersey. Oh and players like to play for him.

Rivera will be in the Top 10 next year this time after the Panthers are 11-5 and in the playoffs. Fox will be at 21 after the Broncos are 8-8 and out of the playoffs. Just sayin'

In John Fox's defense, if he could put together an 8-8 record with that schmuck Tebow, just think what they'll do with Peyton and an AFC west schedule. As far as Rivera, I'd put him at about 16 or 17, not bad for a first year HC.

this guy fox has had an undeserved rep as a good coach since 2003.his panthers teams should have gone to 2or 3 super bowls. he lucked out with tebows heroics that made him look good .now manning will make him look good.unbelievable.#7.what a joke.

Fox is very well respected in the NFL. He has earned the respect of everyone in the league. Except Marty Hurney.

Posted by: cppro | May 24, 2012 6:27:49 PM

hurney made fox look good.hurney gave fox the players to win championships and fox squandered that talent.

3 winning seasons in 10 years as an NFL head coach and he's ranked #7, Fox lives a charmed life.

Fact: Rivera is a great coach and will lead the Panthers to a 500 plus season and will keep improving.
Fact: Most of you people are IDIOTS!!who probably never played a down in the great sport of football.

Go Panthers!!!

Jeremy, you're wrong. John Fox would of ran a half back-draw on third down! LOL

We all most did not make it out of St. Louis to get to the NFC championship that year, for Fox's Conservative "play not to lose" crap! Thank god for Smitty, who won that game for us.

The fact that they have Manning in Denver is perfect for Foxie he shut's the he!! up and lets Manning be the OC that he is and they will win and Fox looks like a good coach.
I agree he must live a charmed life.
Yes he squandered one the most talented teams in the NFL with his Conservative trash. Guys on IR don't mean JACK when you see what Green Bay did.
That was Foxies "out" IR, Hel! Deangelo did not want to go on IR the last season Fox was here, but to everyone outside of Carolina looks good on paper.

The past 2 years Fox coming to the Golf outting sporting all the Broncos gear. He's a D!ck!!!!

The next Commentor will be a FOX lover who will make HUGH excuses and "reasons" why Foxie failed as a Back to back Wining season coach!!!

This "posted by char***** " will cry and whine because Panthers did not have this or that and COMES DOWN TO...... Fox puts everybody on IR when the season is lost!!!!!!!!!! Check and see!

Posted by: 10-4!! | May 26, 2012 12:18:23 AM

Disgusting! Lets see how many guys are on IR if Manning gets hurt!!!! BET THAT!!

Posted by: 10-4!! | May 26, 2012 12:20:27 AM

John Fox sucks!

Posted by: Camfan | May 26, 2012 11:11:36 AM
