Beason thrilled to be back on the field

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Linebacker Jon Beason has had almost a year to think about what he was without when his Achilles ruptured in the Panthers' 2011 season opener.

What did Beason learn while he was sidelined?

"We're all paying rent," Beason said Sunday at training camp. "At the end of the day, whether you're the best in the game or the best to ever do it, when it's over somebody else is going to do it and they'll be talking about the next big-time linebacker. You learn to appreciate each moment and each play that you have.

"For me, not to say Dan Marino and Charles Barkley didn't have great careers, but those are always the two guys that come to mind in terms of not winning a championship. When you do get hurt, you should be appreciative of the opportunity to come back and then at the same time know you've got to try to win it now because nothing is promised tomorrow."

Beason started 65 consecutive games at middle linebacker for the Panthers before going down at Arizona last September. His rehab was motivated, Beason said, by the goal of being where is today, anxious for the first padded practices to take place Monday evening.

Listen to Beason talk and you can hear the excitement in his voice. He wants to play again and he's willing to help in any way he can.

"I don't want to limit myself. I think I can do a lot of things. I think I can play offense, too," Beason said. "They don't need me over there apparently. They're scoring 27 points a game.

Asked what position he might play on offense, Beason said he could play tailback, tight end, wide receiver or quarterback.

"Just put me in, coach," Beason said.

Go Panthers!!! As fans, we need to show more support and faith at games. That means buy tickets, and don't allow opposing fans to dominate our stadium. When our defense is on the field be LOUD, not just on third downs (be loud every damn down), and for the love of god shut up when our offense is on the field. Don't leave the game early if our team is down, because they might make a comeback and could use our help by making noise. You paid for the ticket, might as well enjoy the entire game. As fans, lets do our part to support the team 100%. GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!
