Carolina tied at 13 with Houston at halftime

The Carolina Panthers are tied 13-13 with Houston in their first preseason game of the season at Bank of America Stadium.

Starting quarterback Cam Newton went 2-for-6 for 17 yards in 13 plays. He also rushed twice for 16 yards, including one rush for 15 yards that put the team in field goal range.

Carolina's special teams have suffered thus far. Justin Medlock, who is in a tight battle for the starting kicker position with Olindo Mare, handled kickoff duties and booted a short one to Trindon Holliday that was returned 90 yards for a score in the first quarter.

Mare hit a 33-yard field goal and Medlock nailed a 48-yarder while rookie running back Tauren Poole punched in a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Not blaming that one on Medlock... plenty of guys had a chance to make the tackle and failed to do so. Special Teams players just seem totally unable to get off a blocker... they using super glue?

Hmmm... a slug of tackles, a forced fumble and an INT by Kuechly and you don't even bother to mention him? You were watching the game, right?

Where are the fans on the forum? Given the fairly empty seats it's not like they are at the game!

Last preseason Newton was anemic. Couple of flashes here and there. There is no game planning, We aren't using the whole playbook. The kickoff return was probably Medlock fault. Froze a little but good enough to nail a 48 yd kick. Take away the 7pt on the kickoff return and it was a fairly even match. Not worried one bit. We had some of our swag knocked out of us. Should make for a good week of practice. PRESEAON IS PRESEASON. No need to panic

Go Panthers!!! As fans, we need to show more support and faith at games. That means buy tickets, and don't allow opposing fans to dominate our stadium. When our defense is on the field be LOUD, not just on third downs (be loud every damn down), and for the love of god shut up when our offense is on the field. Don't leave the game early if our team is down, because they might make a comeback and could use our help by making noise. You paid for the ticket, might as well enjoy the entire game. As fans, lets do our part to support the team 100%. GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!
