Davis workload increases, could play vs. Jets
The Panthers have increased the workload of injured linebacker Thomas Davis, and coach Ron Rivera is optimistic Davis could play Sunday against the Jets.
Davis, trying to become the first player to come back from three ACL surgeries on the same knee, injured his calf on the second night of training camp and has been slowly making progress since.
Rivera thought Davis looked good Monday and left open the possibility he could play in the third exhibition against the Jets.
“Absolutely. If Thomas is feeling strong enough and we feel he's made a strong enough recovery we feel that he'll play,” Rivera said. “He looks good right now. The nice thing is he'll have tomorrow off and we'll see him back here Wednesday.”
The Panthers are off Tuesday before beginning their Jets' preparations Wednesday.
Middle linebacker Jon Beason, who has been sidelined with a hamstring issue, participated in the installation periods and walkthroughs Monday but is not as far along in his recovery as Davis. His status for the Jets' game is questionable.

Shocker, Beason is still out. So now a guy that has blown his knee out 3 times is more healthy than him? Wow.
What is the last year of Beason's current contract? Don't expect him to really perform before then, since apparently he only plays for contracts...

The misinformation on these boards is astonishing. How can you say that Beason only plays for contracts? He signed his new deal last year after the lockout ended, he then hurt himself in the first game going full speed trying to chase down a player.
If he had played all of last year and made no effort, then you may be correct.
You can't say that a guy only plays for contracts when he has been out with a major injury after signing the deal.
I guess haters just hate.

Fast Freddie, I am pretty sure he didn't intentionally get hurt last year to not play. And for this year, I'd rather make sure he is 100% healthy before he plays, especially since pre season is a joke for top NFL players. It is only used to get players in game shape form and to test out the rookies and see who to keep at the bottom of the depth chart

Fast Freddie? Are you a Panther fan or what? You sound like someone who's out of touch. Beason has been here playing his butt off until last year. You and anybody else need to stop dogging this guy. Stop talking crazy and get on board Panther Nation!!! We need true fans and not out of touch fans!!! Thank You!!!

What? Just because Davis is coming back maybe before or as the same time as Beason he's healthier then him? Chill out, calf injuries aren't as tricky as hamstrings are. We want our guys as healthy as possible, Davis needs to be back a little before Beason because we need to see if he's still got it. Rivera said that Beason is probable for the Jets game which is on Sunday, which is 5 1/2 days from now. We'll still have 4 days of practice, so be a REAL fan & take it day by day. Even if he doesn't play? i want a healthy Beason come week 1 not someone rushed back into injury.

After Beason signed his new contract last year, it was revealed that he had a problem with his heel and he missed practice time at Wofford. No doubt that Beason tore the Achilles trying to earn his new salary, but did he tell the Panthers about the injury before or after the new contract was signed?

Fast Freddie - WTF are you talking about. In his first 4 seasons 52 went to 3 pro bowls. In his rookie season he was 2nd in DROY voting. If he is playing for contracts he started back in 2007 the day he entered the league. If you are not a fan and a supporter then stay the F off our boards.

Beast will be ready when the regular season starts. Not necessary to see him out there until then.

i wish we could cut off one of armanti's knees and give it to Davis.

I have a bad feeling about Davis, he's been hurt so much. I hope he is ok and doesn't get hurt again. I fear he blows that knee out one more time and his career is over.

Luke is our starter

Haha, I love all the hate that comes out on this board from stating the obvious. Beason hasn't performed since he signed his contract. The guy signed the contract on 7/30/2011, and on 9/11/2011 he was playing in a game. Now, you honestly think the guy was healthy in that amount of time after his elective surgery that he decided on his own to have AFTER he signed that huge contract? No way. He knew further injury was likely but he didn't care if it happened and he had to miss games because he already had his big contract that he played for! In a contract year, he would have waited until fully healthy and performed at his max.
Why don't we just table this discussion until Beason is healthy and back on the field again? So basically, table it until 2013 at the earliest? Thanks.

The Jets are a mess and haven't scored an offensive touchdown the whole preseason. I'd be fine if they rested both Davis and Beason for this one.
