Steve Smith improving, but status still in doubt

Panthers coach Ron Rivera says receiver Steve Smith is improving, but the team plans to be cautious with Smith's infected foot.

Smith missed practice for a second consecutive day Thursday, although Rivera said Smith's foot had improved following a round of antibiotics.

Rivera said the Panthers will decide Friday whether Smith will play in Sunday's exhibition against the Jets. But Rivera indicated he's not going to rush the 12-year veteran back into action.

“Putting him out there right now in this situation and circumstances would not be smart, especially if he doesn't get any practice reps in terms of what we do,” Rivera said.

“This is really a game-plan week. We're approaching this week as if we would any regular-season game. … To put a guy out there when he hasn't had a chance to get those reps would be careless.”

And beason is still trying out for Olympic cycling....I mean you have A Peterson practiceing who tore his acl in less then a year( no swelling afterwards ) and this guy strained his hamstring and has not practiced in over three weeks. Is something wrong with our training staff?

Too many hamstring injuries on the team. Not healing. Must be something wrong with the weightlifting routine. Leave'em at home for a week, stop using the darn thing at all, and it'll heal.

I'm really starting to be concerned about the Beason/Davis injuries. Not really concerned about Davis, considering I'm expecting him to go down at some point, but Beason is bothersome. So far, I think the current coaching staff has been very straight forward and honest with the fans, so as far as I know we have no reason to believe they're lieing/sugar-coating Beason's injury.

I hope Steve gets Tebow to heal him. Maybe he will at least go up to NYC and request the healing touch of Tebow.

Jetz that may be the longest ramble of pure crap I have ever seen. Did you hit your head?

There's definitely something wrong with our training staff, no question. Have we ever had a guy get injured who returns early? How many players have been injured and reinjured, or never quite heal (Otah)? It's getting predictable, and sad, and hard to field a winning team.
