Steve Smith to walk barefoot for charity

Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith – just back from a foot infection – will take off his cleats Sunday and walk barefoot to the locker room at Raymond James Stadium to raise awareness for charity.

Smith will leave his cleats at midfield after the game against Tampa Bay for Samaritan's Feet, which provides footwear for impoverished children around the world.

Smith is attempting to raise enough money to buy 500,000 pairs of shoes for the organization. Smith and Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams also have taken part in shoe giveaways, where they washed the feet of needy children.

The timing of Smith's gesture is interesting, and presumably coincidental. Smith missed the last two weeks of preseason practice after coming down with a foot infection that caused his left foot to become swollen.

Smith couldn't wear a shoe on the infected foot until last Friday. Now he'll be taking them off.

Now how dumb is this????? You had a "foot infection", though no more detail was release on how that happened and now you going to walk barefoot to the locker room in Tampa???? Makes no sense! Now I understand and respect the charity but clearly you can raise money Smitty and wash the feet of the kids without having to walk barefoot after recovering from an infection.....

he should go all out and try to kick some field goals with his recovering foot.

do it for the kids smitty!

Praise the Lord. What an awesome organization this is and what a great way to let people know about what is going on in the world. Thanks S.F. and thank you Smitty.

So many comments about football. The guy is looking at the big picture of raising enough money to buy shoes for half a million kids, and you guys are worrying about the possibility of the guy getting a foot infection. I think this is great for 89 and the Panthers.

Remember when the Bucs were good in 2002?

Tampa Bay Bucs Revenge, way to keep it classy! Good thing there are no rednecks in Tampa. It is a great cause and an admirable goal to provide shoes for 500,000 kids. Everyone that is concerned that he may get another infection or spread his, he'll probably have a roll and a half of tape on each foot plus socks.

Way to keep it classy, TB revenge. *smh*
Luckily, most here don't have the same ignorant short sided POV as you and see the total good in what Smith is doing

I so look forward to my Panthers coming down, but will not blantantly disrespect the Buccs even if they not worthy to be on the same field as the Mighty Cats!

@joecool- yeah, there's a paper still here- need something to wrap fish in, y'know!

Go Panthers!
