Cam Newton appears in new ESPN ad

Cam Newton has taken a lot of heat recently about his post-game scowl after losses, but the Panthers' quarterback still has a sense of humor.

Newton pokes fun at his trophy collection in ESPN's latest This is SportsCenter spot, which will begin airing Tuesday morning.

In the 30-second spot, Newton adds the “Golden Water Cooler” to his trophy-filled cubicle in ESPN's offices in Bristol, Conn. Newton, dressed in his full Panthers' uniform, explains to SportsCenter anchor John Anderson he won the award after telling a joke about Anderson in the break room.

The ad was shot in Bristol in February.

Uh oh! Cam is in a national commercial again. How fast can so-called Panthers fans turn this into a negative?

Mr. Newton needs to take the Panthers to the Superbowl, and WIN that Superbowl before he can even think he's in the same league with Superman. The little ripping open shirt superman thing he does is BS. WIN more games Newton and you might actually convince people you have the potential to be A superman.

You'll never be THE superman.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!!

Posted by: gatorade towel | Oct 1, 2012 5:36:20 PM

I am so sick of the idiots who come in here to complain about Cam Newton for everything the guy does. Idiots like shaw won't be happy until we have guys like Jake Delhomme, Matt Moore and Vinny Testeverde under center playing QB for us.

Blue jersey and white pants? I throw a flag on that. They should be silver.

Posted by: Rick | Oct 1, 2012 5:45:55 PM

Cam is the man! GO PANTHERS!!

Posted by: dude-dawg | Oct 1, 2012 6:22:27 PM

@Rick, they changed the scheme this year with uniforms. Blue jersey with white pants is correct.

I love these commercials, but I have to say this one--the humor was a little dry. Do a youtube search for "this is sportscenter". A lot of people post the classic ones and you'll agree. They could have played off the whole Superman thing somehow.

Not only are panther fans dumb there are color blind too. Those are silver pants. The same silver pants the team has worn since they came out with those ugly and unlucky blue jerseys.

delhomme was one of the most winningest starting quarterbacks in the NFL, let alone the best in our franchise history. throwing his name in the hat with testaverde's time here and matt moore and the like is completely ignoring how great he was for about 5 years. Dude's metrics were brady and bree's-like. He just didn't have quantity stats because we were running the ball so much.

not a lot of guys with his w/l record as a starter.

Real panther fans would notice that of course it's not this years colors. It's last years. Giveaway is the old panthers logo on helmet and side if jersey. The commercial was shot in February. Oh and btw. The new alternate blue is a few shades darker this year. Hope you're reading this Mr. Richardson. I got your back!

You have to understand that the Carolina's are the good ole boy states. They will always be of a confederate mindset and would never want to have a black man as their quarterback. That's the truth. You have people on here talking about Jake Delhomme like he is the truth. These confederates will wonder why Cam doesn't re-sign here after his rookiw contract is up.

Yeah thats it. No other town in the US has any racial issues. Only in the south. Riiight.

Did someone really just put JD and Brady/Brees in the same breath? Shows you how dillusional some Panther fans are. Same ones that will run Cam out of town. Sad.

I could care less what color ANY QB for the Panthers is. JUST WIN!

Someone said without Newton they wouldn't have a chance to win. WIN? Their record is 1-3...1 AND 3. WHERE'S THE WINNING?

Newton has skills, but the youngster needs to grow up, and grow up fast. Steve Smith called it like he saw it, stop moping and hiding your head in a towel, get back on the sidelines with your teammates and get your head back in the game.

I was born and raised in Charlotte NC and the Panthers are a disgrace. If they keep it up they'll have another losing season, just like the many other seasons before.

One of the Panthers before the season started that they WERE going to the Superbowl this year. That's NOT going to happen. Brace yourself Panther fans, you'll be watching 2 teams that aren't the Panthers in this season's Superbowl.

Awesome commercial!! The guy that wrote this is from Charlotte. He does some really funny commercials!! Go Panthers!

People- its a game-- and they are adults being paid way to much to play a game- then again they do act like kids-- one of the 3 year olds in my block thinks he's superman too---

Posted by: netranger | Oct 1, 2012 9:08:30 PM

Ok, reality check for everyone. We are expecting a 23 year old to come and save us. He isnt ready. He will be thanks to Smitty, Kalil and a supportive fan base. Who had a chance to win the game for us...? The defense, no excuses. The ball was on the 1 yard line. NO EXCUSES from the D. Cam had an amazing game and the stinking D lost it again. Haruki was to blame. He is the last line of Defense. We put up 28 points on a team that has been great so far this year. Its not Cam or our offense's fault. It is most certainly the D. Numbers do not lie.
And for all you rednecks out there that keep bringing the race issue up. Just shut up. Race is no issue here. A fanbase that still does not understand football is the problem with you all and Cam. Anyone know how many games Peyton Manning won year one? How about year two, and at that rate year three. Give my man Cam a defense and you will find a annually unstoppable team. CAM. You are a great. A FUTURE HOF player. From all of us who have any sense... We look forward to you joining Smitty in the HOF as a Panther. Oh and once again... REDNECKS...Shut up. Your showing why the south still gets made fun of... Keep Pounding and GO PANTHERS
P.S. ALR07...why even read an article about sports... go pet your cats.

sorry ALR07 I misread the comment posts. My bad it was netranger I was supposed to direct that to.

The Falcons were lucky to win this game.
The Panthers played a good game. Most
ATL fans do not look forward to playing the
Panthers in Charlotte. They will be focused and the home crowd will have them "fired up". Cam played a good game. We could not stop your running backs. We were relieved
Rivera did not go for it on fourth down.
We were surrounded by Panthers fans at the game, and they carried themselves with dignity and respect.

Seriously, where's all the hate towards Steve Smith? He has two sportscenter commercials! The fact that all you losers get on here and complain about Cam taking an opportunity to be in a commercial makes you pathetic hypocrites. You would do the same thing if that was you! GET A LIFE AND STFU!!!!

Posted by: WingMan79 | Oct 2, 2012 7:38:05 AM

The Superman spot has already been used in a SC commercial with Dwight Howard... bet they didnt want to recycle. Commercial wasn't bad, but i think ESPN knew it was a little weak and thats why they released it after the Jon Clayton spot.

Posted by: catsfan | Oct 2, 2012 8:47:10 AM

Omg he's not the first ATHLETE to star in an ESPN commercial. Steve Smith has done it, Tony Romo has done it, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Dwight Howard, Larry Fitzgerald, Albert Pujols. Give the guy a break. Winning has nothing to do with starring in a commercial. Personally, I think they're all funny.
