Rivera says Beason headed to IR
The hits keep coming for the Carolina Panthers.
The team placed Pro Bowl linebacker Jon Beason on injured reserve with a knee injury, coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday.
Beason missed the past two games with a left knee issue that will require surgery. Beason underwent season-ending surgery on his left Achilles last September.
Beason has played in five games since signing a five-year, $51.5 million contract extension in 2011 that includes $25 million in guaranteed money.
The Beason news comes two days after general manager Marty Hurney was fired, and a day after cornerback Chris Gamble was placed on IR with a shoulder injury.
Rookie middle linebacker Luke Kuechly has played well in Beason's stead. Kuechly, the ninth overall pick in the April draft, was credited by the team with 16 and 18 tackles in losses to Seattle and Dallas respectively.
The Panthers have claimed two players off waivers to fill the void – cornerback James Dockery (from Cleveland) and linebacker Doug Hogue (from Detroit). Both are expected to contribute immediately on special teams.

CUT THAT BUM!! No more free rides. Get rid of all the dead wood. Bench "the Smile", find out who wants to win and who wants to place the team before their own interests.

Another Morgan,made out of glass.

The injuries are looking like a repeat of last year.

This is what happens when a team starts to lose and the season is looking like a waste of time. Everyone starts getting hurt and sitting until the next year...expect to see more of this...

He's too delicate, time to let him go, we need men, not whiney beeatches.

Oversized, un-natural body puts a strain on the tendons and ligaments. If God had meant for people to be 240 lbs, and run a 4.4, he would have given them an open vein to pump the substances in.

Sound like the posts from early need to stop whine. Beason always played with fire and deserve the contract he got. Now for some of the others ie: Turnover machine Jake, NO!!!!!!

Can you say worst record AGAIN which may not be a bad thing. Do you draft Matt Barkley or use the Number 1 pick to get as many draft picks as possible. If Hurney was still here I would be afraid he would really screw this one up. Get an experienced General Manager who has some brains and some big balls and get down to some serious bargaining!!! Bill Poulian was known for his hard bargaining and getting the mostest with the leastest...he's out there!!

Sorry to hear that he's out again. Too many people forget the type of player Jon Beason has been for this team, and how many consecutive games he played in and records he set until he got hurt last year.
Hope his recovery goes well, and that he makes it back.

Is it possible to cut Beason, Davis, and DWill and not be crippled by the cap hits? Is there a website that has this info?

I'M thru with this team. The Panthers are a joke to the rest of the NFL.

I hate it for him. Good player who is struggling with injuries. Davis appears to have recovered so let's not give up on Beason - and this shows Hurney was right to draft Luke in the first round

You guys are idiots, Beason is a Pro-Bowler and the heart of the defense. I'm a HUGE Panther fan and to read all of your comments make me ashamed that you guys are supposedly fans too. All you are are remote control/couch warriors. Why dont you get off that couch and lose those love handles so your wives will actually be interested in sharing a bed with you once again... Then talk!

Hurney's mistake was the 2008 draft. Stewart when you already had Williams and then to trade so much for Otah. That is the draft that started the bad habit of trading future picks like the trade for Everett Brown and the one for AE. Before that draft Hurney didn't do bad at all.

why not hire rich choo for GM

So much for hanging on to hope. I'm tired of my team selling me false dreams. I don't even think the product thats on the field is even worth driving through traffic and paying 20.00 for a park. I got tickets to Atlanta and Tampa Bay that I am giving away. Not even worth trying to sell.

Thanks Marty! Another brilliant move gone wrong. At least Jon got his $ before getting hurt.

While you spend your Sunday in front of a TV dreaming of what you could never accomplish, I have your wife in the bedroom making her wish you were half the man I am. Go ahead, kiss her afterwards. How does it taste?

Beason was a good player but I think he is done and its time to move on. NFL TEAMS THAT DOUBLE AS MASH UNITS AND REPLACE STARTERS WITH WAIVER WIRE CAST OFFS WILL ALWAYS BE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LEAGUE WITH THE OTHER FLOTSAM AND JETSLAM. RIVERA AND COMPANY HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT HOW TO RUN AN NFL FRANCHISE. Its time to clean house and start rebuilding from the bottom up. A house divided against itself cannot stand AND THIS TEAM IS IMPLODING AND THE BIG CAT NEEDS TO START FROM SCRATCH.

Hey Chuck I'll gladly take your tickets if your just giving them away. Even though the Panthers are having a bad year I have a couple of kids that would love to see there team play.

Now that Hurney is gone expect Beason to be CUT after the season!!!!!

This is the most snake bitten franchise in NFL history, before its all said and done we're gonna be the only team in our division without a superbowl win.

Stop going nuclear with everything ya'll...!
Beason was not as effective this season, and that's probably because it can take over a full year to get back to 100% (if ever) from achilles surgery. It's possible his body overcompensated for his ankle weakness, which led to damage to his knee. Not an excuse..it's how the body works. At this point it's wise to shut him down, get the surgery, and prepare for next season. Same thing with Gamble.
This Panthers team can still make some adjustments and win a few games. Perspective is needed to moderate the frustration. I think the glass is half-full, not half-empty, but it will take a lot of work and smart moves to get this squad back to contending for the playoffs. That process starts now, even though the goal is not likely reached until next season (or the next IMO).
Doing it right starts with a quality, experienced GM and builds from there. There are good building blocks here now that can keep the Panthers from suffering the fate of teams like Cleveland. Lt's see how it plays out.

I just heard Hurney is going through a nasty DIVORCE!!

-Sorry to say, but it looks like the Jon Beason era in Carolina has came to a weird end. Luckly, we have Luke Kuechly, who's been doing better this year in the middle. (Tackles went up, we havent gave up many rushing yards, D's been playing better as a whole). Its just hard to imagine Beason w/ a different jersey on; he probably will be let go after the season w/ the new GM coming.
-I hope this new GM drops Clausen and Edwards in a jiffy, because they symbolize the old losing Carolina Panthers, and what we are trying to change from.
-Rivera might be out the door too. Honestly, I wouldnt mind. As much as I hoped he would be, he IS NOT a good HEAD coach.
-I dont want us to cut Chud either. Becuase we all know how good he is. They just NEED TO GET RID OF THE READ-OPTION FORMATION PERIOD. We use it TOO much this year. Go back to what we were calling last year.
-Cam has to become a better QB. He needs to get more accurate. He needs to start learning to read defenses AND GETTING THE BALL OUT OF HIS HANDS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.
-Keep McDermott. He is doing better. Him and Kuechly (if they already havent) need to form a bond.
-We need to sign a returner. Pilares isnt a good one, but we need to pass to him more.
