Panthers backup QB Anderson hints on Facebook he's going back to Browns
Already short an offensive coordinator, the Carolina Panthers may have to start looking for a new backup quarterback.
Derek Anderson wrote on his Facebook page that he'd be "honored" to play in Cleveland again just one day after the Cleveland Browns announced former Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski as their head coach.
"Looks like it is time to make a return to a familiar place for some unfinished business," Anderson posted, according to Ohio's News-Herald. "I'd be honored to return to Cleveland to play football if the fans would have me."
Anderson served as Cam Newton's backup the past two seasons at Carolina. He appeared in two games each season and did not record a passing stat in 2011. He played in garbage time in Week 3's game against the New York Giants and filled in for an injured Newton on a handful of snaps in the 2012 season finale at New Orleans.
Chudzinski and Anderson were together with the Browns in 2007 and 2008 when Chudzinski was the offensive coordinator. Anderson went to the Pro Bowl in 2007 after passing for 3,787 yards, 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
He left Cleveland unceremoniously following the 2009 season. He went down with a knee injury during the season and lambasted the fans for cheering his injury. After leaving the team he said Cleveland fans "didn't deserve a winner."
It's unclear whether Anderson would compete for the starting role or serve as the No. 2 quarterback in Cleveland. Rookie QB Brandon Weeden, who was drafted 22nd overall, passed for 3,385 yards, 14 touchdowns and 17 interceptions this year.
The Panthers likely would not promote QB Jimmy Clausen to the backup role and instead would look for a veteran free agent to back up Newton, who will be entering his third NFL season.

You could pretty much see that coming as soon as Chud was hired, and Derek Anderson was a free agent.

Jimmy Clausen as back up. That is absolutely horrifying.

I am sure the fans in Carolina will wish Derek Anderson good luck and godspeed. He has done a good job of backing up Cam and he is available because the Panthers would only sign him to a one year deal for the time he has been here. The best of luck to Chud, Derek, and the Browns if they sign him.

Don't even bring up Timmy t-bone or Armanti Edwards Better off getting a true nfl Qb back up with some decent mobility.

Why can't Derek compete with Weeden? They're about the same age.

Can't blame Anderson, Cam's performance was inspiring. Hire Hue Jackson already!!
Sign Jason Campbell and keep Logan Thomas on your radar for 2014.
Coach able dual threat QBs who know when and how to throw, to run and hand off are on the rise.

how do you expect to sign free agents when we are $15 million over the cap?

Cam has made a few comments about "Jimmy" helping in the meeting room. It leads me to believe that HE has some faith in Clausen as a back-up.
I'm not sure what is going on in that room.

He ought to be starting for the Panthers. When is old man Richardson going to wake up ?

-D.A. was a great backup. I always had 100% faith in him to come in and win a game for us. I didn't see this move coming, but I can say it makes sense. He can go to Cleveland and actually start for that team and provide a spark next season. He makes quick good reads and gets the ball out of his hands quickly.
-I'm hoping each and everyday that the Panthers, the "new Panthers" (Cam Newton era), get rid of USELESS players such as Jimmy Clausen and Armanti Edwards. I use the word useless loosely, as maybe Clausen and Edwards could be useful for another team and/or another system. We can sign any of the OK QBs that are going to be free agents this offseason. Maybe one with dual-threat capabilities...(Vick, Young,..etc.)

Need a prequalified backup at #2, but need to dump Clausen and make AE emergency #3. All of you wanting to dump him have never seen him throw the ball. Many in that locker room know he has the 2nd best arm on the team!

Listen, the New G.M. will be cleaning out some of the over paid guys soon enough. Anderson knows this. Why else would he put himself out there like that. Jimmy C. is most like gone as well. So too is Armanti E. gone. This team doesn't need another flash in the pan holding down a good roster spot. Money's tight and the new G.M. will try to clean up Hurney's mess. This should have happened when John (it is what it is) Fox got fired. Sad to said this, but with yet another full staff coming on board, it looks like that Panthers will be in the back of the pack for yet another year or two. Thanks John and Marty for your incompetence and running this team into the ground. Some of you may ask for proof of this statement. Well 9 yrs is proof enough of what I just wrote. The Panthers could and should have built a pretty good team while under those two's watch and look where they are today, 7-9 with the odds stacked against them of making the playoffs next season.
