Newton conspicuously left off Madden cover vote

A year after placing second in the Madden video game cover vote, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton didn't even make this year's cut.

Last April, Newton was seen on a viral video calling out Lions WR Calvin Johnson for the Madden 13 cover.

But this year, Newton was not among the 32 "new school" players who are going up against one another in a bracket-style competition with 32 "old school" players on the opposite side.

Seattle QB Russell Wilson, Washington QB Robert Griffin III, Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson and Houston RB Arian Foster are the four "new school" players remaining in the quarterfinals

Round One of the event, which went from March 11-20, conspicuously does not feature Newton. But other, less-notable NFL players like Buffalo RB C.J. Spiller, Philadelphia RB LeSean McCoy and Cincinnati WR A.J. Green were among the 32.

The only Panther on the "new school" side was rookie LB Luke Kuechly, who lost in the first round to Baltimore RB Ray Rice, who received 82 percent of the vote.

Newton hasn't said anything publicly about not being on this year's ballot, but his omission raises eyebrows. Newton definitely moved the meter in NFL news last year, and while his numbers slipped slightly from his Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign in 2011, that's tough to justify an omission.

Cam is simply not as good as the Observer seems to think he is..

And this is a big deal because...

Posted by: Swizzle52 | Apr 4, 2013 4:55:30 PM

he is what we thought he was....that's why

Posted by: big gulps | Apr 4, 2013 4:58:08 PM

Making or NOT making that list doesnt matter! Who cares????!!! Popularity contest anyway!

His omission raises eyebrows? What about the omission of Brady, Brees, Manning and Rodgers? Granted they've all been on the cover before, but this isn't a big deal at all.

Brady, Rodgers, and either Manning have never appeared on the cover of Madden.

Geeeee, whatever became of that Cammie line of clothing??? HAHAHA

Let me help you out Jonathan, the rest of the nation does not constantly jock sniff the thief like you and the rest of the CO staff does. He is not that good. He has been less of a leader than a crybaby. He will never win at this level. His record speaks for itself.

I'll take 1/2 a Luke over two Cam's any day.

Why does the rest of the nation yawn when he is mentioned?? Because he is a loser.

If the Panthers had won the Super Bowl and the Ravens finished 7-9, that 82-18% vote would have been reversed.

You so called fans who bash the team and its players trip me out.. This City doesn't deserve any professional franchise. Nfl, Nba, nothing. It's a shame a city as beautiful and promising as Charlotte is full of a bunch of fickle, negative, bandwagon prunes who get off on constant complaining.. Get a life

Posted by: Charlotteisfullofprunes | Apr 4, 2013 10:53:24 PM

Amen on the prunes. The team is going to be as good as the fans. You gotta believe. The Universe responds. People respond.

With all the negative posts about Cam and the Panthers, it kind of makes you wonder why some people even read the articles about them. It's kind of like poking yourself in the eye then saying "That hurt. Wonder what will happen if I do it again."

Wat a bunch of morons he is no looser national champion twice heisman winner NFL rookie of the year certainly is no looser not to many have that kind of record look at the franchise he's with sounds like u don't know to much about football

Wow. It's a sad day when all people do is spew venom. You must live a miserable life to always be angry, bitter, judgmental, accusing. Most of the time you project on others as you percieve yourself. God bless you all who have all that hate inside. I rarely reply to these silly blogs but it is pretty laughable and I feel sorry for the people who spread such hate. Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Why are there so many so called fans that never have anything good to say about the team? Really! You act as if Cam has not accomplished anything! And as for the theif thing, please move on the kid made a mistake like a lot of people have. It may not have been stealing but everyone as been guilty of something. Some are guilty now and still looking down their nose at someone else.

YO! Netranger, You certainly are as dumbazz as we all think you are.......stay stuck up Tony Romo's behind, 'cause you certainly smell like cowpile poop.

Posted by: Big Bad John | Apr 5, 2013 2:51:21 PM

We obviously have some out of town racists spewing their hate venom here.

Posted by: Big Bad John | Apr 5, 2013 2:55:13 PM

Based on the past year the simple fact is he did not deserve to be on the cover of the Panthers program never mind a National game, get real CO.

To many transplants here they all still want to.talk about their great teams from their great cities that they trashed to the point they were forced to leave now they want to trash this place so it want b fit to live in neither if they loved it what r they doing here commenting on our team such haters

Posted by: t .roberts | Apr 5, 2013 9:27:39 PM
