Hixon and Stewart out for minicamp

A couple of key cogs in the Panthers' offense – one a returning veteran and the other a free agent acquisition – continue to rehab injuries with an eye on training camp.

Recently acquired wideout Domenik Hixon will miss all of this week's three-day minicamp after injuring his hamstring last week during OTAs, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Tuesday.

“He tweaked it about a week ago so we’re being careful with it,” Rivera said. “He is coming on, did some really nice things for us, but unfortunately we’re going to miss out on the next couple days without him.”

Hixon, the former Giants wideout, missed all but two games in 2010 and 2011 after twice tearing the ACL in his right knee. He missed time last year with an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, running back Jonathan Stewart continues to recover from offseason surgeries on both ankles. Stewart missed seven games in 2012 due to ankle injuries.

Rivera said Stewart is progressing well, but did not say whether he would be ready for the start of training camp in July.

“He’s rehabbing. He had both ankles done in the offseason and he’s probably right along the lines of where he needs to be,” Rivera said. “The hard part is any time you have both of them done – whether it’s two ankles, two knees, two hips, two shoulders, whatever – it’s going to be a while.

“And we know that. but he’s been working and rehabbing and it’s good to see him whenever he gets out on the field jogging around.”

Stewart is so overrated. But I do give him credit for playing through injuries.
Unlike Jon Beason who wouldn't play with a tooth ache. Funny that we're so used to him being out that its not even news anymore.
