Five Panthers in NFC South's Top 25 list by ESPN.com

The Carolina Panthers are one of four teams in the NFC South, but they only have one-fifth of the top 25 players in the division according to a list from ESPN.com.

In a list ranking the top 25 players in the division, ESPN.com writer Pat Yasinskas ranked quarterback Cam Newton as the top Panther at No. 6. The other four Panthers are middle linebacker Luke Kuechly (No. 9), center Ryan Kalil (No. 11), defensive end Charles Johnson (No. 14) and wide receiver Steve Smith (No. 21).

Though there are three players yet to be named, you can conclude that none of them will come from Carolina. Atlanta wide receiver Julio Jones, New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees and Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan have yet to be named to the list.

The five players from Carolina will likely finish in a tie with New Orleans for third in the division while Atlanta will likely finish with six players. Tampa Bay had nine players in the top 25, including newly acquired CB Darrelle Revis at No. 5, just ahead of Newton.

Smitty is better than #21, Cam is nowhere near #6, more like #10. Luke is getting noticed, this time next year he will be in the top 5.

That's not really impressive if you think about the fact that there are 4 teams and we only have 1/5th of the best players in the conference.

This ranking means absolutely nothing and does nothing for wins/losses.

Hate to say it but would also rank dead last in the division in coaching, and front office/ownership/mangement.

Who pays attention to anything ESPN puts out these days anyways? They're like the General Hospital of the sports world.

The only thing that matters is where the PANTHERS rank at the end of this year.

He put Bowers and Freeman in the top 25!

Says a lot more about Pat Y's slipping judgment than it does about who the 25 best players in the NFC South are.

Steven Jackson and Bowers are in this "Top 25." Need to say more?

Josh Freeman is better than Cam. I would trade even right now and the Panthers would be MUCH better off.

i don't think sproles, colston, OR freeman belong on that list at all.

sproles is a good football player and all but ahead of steve smith?! 13th, seriously? for a 3rd down back?

freeman might be the weakest starter on his team.

we don't necessarily have anyone else that belongs on the list except MAYBE olsen, hardy, godfrey.

williams and stewart both would be if we would give them the ball.
