Cam Newton gave advice to Johnny Manziel this offseason
Winning the Heisman Trophy puts you in a very small, very elite fraternity.
Only 76* men have won the award, and Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton is one of them. So when the most recent winner of the award needed some advice, Newton was there to help.
Johnny Manziel said he's talked to Cam Newton a few times this offseason abt handling overnight stardom/success.— Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) July 17, 2013
Newton had to deal with the quick change from relative unknown (to the casual college football fan) following his one-year stop at Blinn Junior College to a household name at Auburn in less than a year.
Manziel, speaking Wednesday from SEC media day, became the first redshirt freshman to ever win the Heisman Trophy following his record-breaking season last year at Texas A&M. One of the records that fell was Newton's SEC record for most yards of total offense.
In the week following the award ceremony, Newton said he voted for Johnny Football, one year after he put in his ballot for eventual winner Robert Griffin III.
“I’m very happy for Johnny Manziel. For his impact, doing the things that he’s done this particular year, this guy’s unbelievable,” Newton said. “I was a big fan of him, watching him each and every Saturday.”
*--There was that whole 2005 Reggie Bush thing.

Impressed that Cam voted for Manziel.
Curious to see if Johnny Football has a sophomore slump.

I'm curious to see how he even manages to be eligible as a sophomore. I guess heisman winners play by different rules, or he has insanely rich parents. Didn't he sit courtside at a heat playoff game or something?
explain to me how that isn't impermissible.

I guess this explains all of the dumb decisions by Manziel since winning the Heisman.

I can only hope he took all of Cammie's advice and did the opposite.

Why are all of you saying that you hope he did the opposite of whatever Cam told him? He never got in trouble for partying, bad behavior, & that kind of stuff.

Johnny Football took classes online for the Spring Semester because he said he was getting too much attention on campus from students after the season and winning the Heisman. Cam Newton returned to Auburn this Spring to work on his degree and went to class like a normal student, went to basketball games, played intramural basketball and all...Cam said at times it was hectic but "it was all love".

I seriously doubt the validity of this article. It might as well be a message board post. An article based upon a single tweet? C'mon, man!

Is that the same Cam Newton who said that the Atlanta Falcons are his favorite NFL team?

Look.....all of the bammer fans still hurting over 28-27 are here. WDE!

Cam haters keep hateing...if you ani't figured it out yet "sucess is the best revenge" and Mr. Cam is very sucessful. As long as this world stands Cam will be apart of an elite group of guys (Heisman). Wonder what legacy the haters have now and/or will leave. Please get a life cause he has one.

Best I can tell, that 'record of success' is 13-19.

This is why I hope Cam leaves you saltines and lets you have what you want; jimmy cLOSTson. I honestly don't see why caucasians are even allowed to step on the field with us. You're a waste and I hate looking at you on my tv. I can't stand any of you I don't care who they are. I'm hoping every white quarterback gets his __ drug like the next door neighbor's dog so we never have to see you stinking up my tv set. And as far as johny jack%ss is concerned; I hope he overdoes.

I would hope CN isn't the only person Manzel talked too. Tim Tebow and RGIII might know a little something about dealing with the pressure of superstardom. Then again maybe Johnny Football was only asking how to handle all the negative press after a string of bad publicity moves.

Wow. Really? Justafan you need to chill out. Yeah this thing is full of Bama fans that can't get over a loss that happened over two years ago and Cam fans that would support him no matter what, but of all the people on this cite you have some serious issues.

Boy, seems like most people are mad at the world, or want attention. I thought it was a good gesture of Cam's to congradulate him and try to give him advise to handle the Media frenzy. Does that hurt anyone out there? or is it just envy.

Very few IF ANY young men can handle, with GRACE and maturity, the kind of pressure Cam has been under since he was 18! Any parent should be proud to call the young man their son and as for mentoring, if he can impart even half of his wisdom about doing the right thing (Cam has been personable, respectful and given back to the Char community and all we do is bash him) to Manziel, he would do himself well TO LISTEN!!

Cam is still an Auburn student, but he is already a pro! WDE!!

One things is for sure, Cam haters are alive and well. Must suck to always be mad about something, i pity you ppl who have so much hate inside your heart...

Why does everyone hate on newton? What did he do so bad that was so much worse than any other football player? Just sounds like jealousy if you ask me.

justafan- Get back on those fries, fool! we have people in line! And "cracker" doesn't refer to "saltines", you ignorant f**k, it refers to "crack" of the slaver's whip; true story, right there. So, maybe you'd like to reconsider the racist crap you spout, and opt for a less "self inflicted" term such as "honky". Also, use a spell checker, if you haven't broken whichever one is on your '98 gateway. You POS.
