Campbell to have surgery, Edwards still out

The Panthers are getting thin along their offensive line, an area already considered a possible liability.

Backup left tackle Bruce Campbell will undergo shoulder surgery on his rotator cuff. Coach Ron Rivera said it could be a season-ending injury for Campbell, who arrived last year in a trade from Oakland for running back Mike Goodson.

Rivera said it was disappointing because Campbell had graded out well against Chicago last week while playing both tackle spots.

Rivera said he wasn't sure the Panthers would fill the roster spots of Campbell and rookie fullback Mike Zordich, who was lost for the season after tearing his ACL against the Bears.

Meanwhile, rookie guard Edmund Kugbila has suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury. Kugbila aggravated the injury during Sunday's practice and was on the sideline Monday. Kugbila, the team's fourth-round pick, has yet to make it through a practice – OTAs and minicamp included.

Rivera also indicated receivers Armanti Edwards (hamstring), Domenik Hixon (hamstring) and Joe Adams (calf) would likely miss Thursday's game against Philadelphia. Edwards has had a good camp, while Hixon has been out for a week and a half.

Rivera said it would be another week before Kugbila and Hixon were ready to return.

Perhaps getting rid of Hangartner so quickly wasn't a good move? Could this be the first of Gettleman shooting himself in the foot?

That's how we do it here in the Carolinas!! Get great tallent, get injured to to lack of personal training, then blame the 7-9 season on too many injuries.

@ Cal Willden

Every team sustains injuries during training camp and the preseason games dipshit.

Your comment could not be more asinine!

Said it before I'll say it again. Can't make the team in the tub big kug...

I'm sorry but I was concerned with Kugbila on draft day and now I'm more worried, he is starting to look like Otah 2.0.

Maybe Edmund Kugbila is really a clone of Jeff Otah. If he is injured all season...cut him...do not pay his salary for three years and then cut him.

What about Hangartner and Wharton? Are they still available?

Posted by: Ron R | Aug 12, 2013 11:50:11 PM

Two words.... Waiver wire

kugliba CAN'T be jeff otah 2.0 until he dominates for 2 years AND THEN starts missing games.

you are touchy...don't post comments-
Comments still are valid- Rivera had to show his folks that stalwarts like Hangartner are not shoe ins for any job let alone final 53. This team had two major issues end of year and this- Secondary and Line- Secondary is making progress, the line seems to be treading water and now with Kug looking like.. and Campbell w/surgery- They were too thin to begin with now.... The score might not be high, but they will waste another year of Cam's physical well being for what a 7-9 year with losses by 2-5 points, they're still losses- get on the wire, get Hangartner back get moving..pleez, it's a long drive home when they lose all the time

Kugbila is a bust and will not make this team in my opinion. I have never heard of a draftee not making it though a single practice since the draft. Rivera needs to cut this dead weight now and try and pick up a player who wants to play and can stay healthy for a while. This is Gettleman's first wasted draft pick. You can't win them all however.

they won't be losing games by 2-5 points because of whoever plays right guard.

I could play right guard and that still wouldn't be the difference in turning the corner or not. that's on coach. entirely.
