Steve Smith still going strong at 34

SPARTANBURG

Nothing against the food at Wofford, but Panthers receiver Steve Smith often leaves training camp at lunchtime to drive to the Whole Foods in nearby Greenville to eat organic.

M4n75.St.138Smith, who turned 34 in May, credited his sustained success to good genes and a dietary change he made seven years ago after reading about the benefits of organic foods. Smith also uses a personal trainer during the offseason rather than work out at Bank of America Stadium.

The regimen seems to be working.

Smith is coming off a season in which he caught a team-leading 73 passes for 1,174 yards and four touchdowns, while becoming the 27th receiver in NFL history to reach 11,000 receiving yards.

As to whether he's lost a step, Smith said Monday: “What I'm doing at 34, there are GM's hoping and praying they can draft a guy that can do what I'm doing.”

Smith said he plans to keep on doing his signature ball spin, despite an emphasis by officials to crack down on taunting this year.

“We're working it out,” said Smith, adding he might have to alter his spin.

Officials have been told to penalize players who spin the ball at or in the vicinity of opponents.

See if Food Lion has a sale this week. Sounds like that hot dog (Smith) needs some mustard!

Did he do the ball spin that time the NO Saints guy cheap shot him in the end zone?

NFL needs to worry more with that kind of stuff than a dance or ball spin.

Smitty needs to run away from the opponents after one of his many scores and spin it there to avoid the BS taunting calls.

Its a beginning and intelligent thing to do and one needs to cut back on all meats especially red meat and no junk foods or you will have doctors standing over you years later telling you that you need to change what you eat or it will eat you.
