Dwan Edwards inactive for Panthers vs. Giants

Ron Rivera and defensive coordinator Sean McDermott have said this week the Panthers will need their front seven to play well against the Giants.

That front seven will be without its most veteran member, defensive tackle Dwan Edwards, on Sunday.

Edwards is inactive for the game after being listed as "very, very questionable" on Friday with a hamstring injury he's dealt with since the preseason. Colin Cole will start in his place.

The other Panthers inactives are DB D.J. Moore (knee), CB Josh Thomas (concussion), RB Kenjon Barner (foot), S Quintin Mikell (ankle), CB James Dockery (thumb/shoulder) and DE Frank Alexander.

The Giants will be down starting cornerback Corey Webster and right tackle David Diehl

Carolina will have three safeties (Mike Mitchell, Robert Lester and Colin Jones) and four cornerbacks (Captain Munnerlyn, Drayton Florence, Josh Norman and Melvin White).

Could this game save Rivera's job?

this win had nothing to do with coaching.

just proved we have some talent. new york is struggling, but they have a lot of talent across the board. they aren't a gimme for anybody. the close games matter and that's where rivera is clueless. anybody can win when your defense and offense are both clicking like they were.

I agree charlottean.

A team that plays awesome one game and down another points to coaching issues, as does consistently losing close games.

It is nice to get a big win though.

steve smith up to 11,595 career yard - 239 yards away from next rung on the latter....22nd place.

466 yards from top 20 all-time.

while i don't think smitty will play long enough to do so.....#2 is 4,339 yards away. completely attainable if he puts in 3 more good years after this one. 2nd to jerry rice is like 1st among humans.

here's to hoping he guts it out and that the passing game starts to open up for him in these next 4 games.
