New NFL policy means no black Panthers helmet
The Panthers black-on-black jersey and pants combination was voted the greatest uniform in NFL history.
For the foreseeable future, a black helmet will not be added to the mix.
An NFL committee on head, neck and spine safety recommended to the league that teams no longer use alternate helmets.
"Our Head, Neck, and Spine Committee, chaired by Drs. Hunt Batjer and Richard Ellenbogen, and the Player Safety Advisory Panel, chaired by John Madden and Ronnie Lott, have recommended that players no longer wear different helmets as part of a ‘Throwback’ or ‘Third’ uniform,” the memo from the league office, obtained by ProFootballTalk.com, said. “Our office supports this change and has reviewed it with the chairman of our Health and Safety ownership committee, Dr. John York, who concurs with this recommendation."
The rule was made public Tuesday afternoon after it was revealed Tampa Bay would not be allowed to wear its Bucco Bruce helmet with its throwback 'Creamsicle' uniforms.
That means, since Carolina wears silver helmets, the black Panthers helmet that fans have long yearned for won't be happening any time soon, if it was ever in the works in the first place.
The Bills wore a throwback helmet against Carolina in Week 2, but the equipment staff simply changed the decals on their white helmets. If the rule had been in place last year, Washington and Atlanta would not have been able to wear their throwback helmets against Carolina.
The Panthers will wear black jerseys in Weeks 11-16 and could wear black pants in any or all of those games.

That survey was very misleading. It was supposed to be for teams "regular" uniforms,NOT a once a year uni or throwback. The black on black is nice, but NOT the panthers normal uni's!

To anonymous @8:03:20 PM: Your post was absolutely incorrect. The first round of voting contained 64 uniforms, which included two brackets that were "Throwback(s". Since we all know there are only 32 teams in the NFL, how in the world do you think 64 uniforms could have consisted of only, "teams 'regular' uniforms"?

So the NFL teams are so poor they can't afford three sets of helmets? Give me a break.

The alternate helmets are no less safe than the normal ones, this doesn't even make sense. If you can have more than 1 uniform, why not more than 1 helmet? Another stupid rule by the NFL!

First incompetent management/coaching, then an awful product on the field, now they won't even change a helmet color. Something fans have wanted for the longest time here.
This Panthers team is just a mess. Owner who doesn't listen to fans, coaches and GM who don't have a clue, and now these tired, old silver helmets.
The Bobcats are such a refreshing breathe of fresh air. Owner who listens to fans, a GM that has a plan, and a group of young, talented guys who play hard on the court.

David, you might want to check your math... 32 teams who each have Home and Away unis does equal 64 "regular" uniforms. That doesn't necessarily mean you're wrong about the survey, just that your choice of "evidence" is faulty.
Jrguyiii, yes they could be... it would've been helpful had the article spelled out the reasoning but with the current focus on avoiding helmet to helmet hits, I can certainly see how eliminating the contrast between the jersey and helmet could make that harder. I'm aware there are already some teams where jersey and helmet are the same color or close, but those were pre-existing and no reason why you have to allow more!
As for Phil and DWG, either you didn't read the article or were just looking for an excuse to whine... this is a LEAGUE rule change and has nothing to do with money or Panther's coaching or management.

Who cares about black helmets!! Win games first!!! Cosmetics later!!

How does the color of a helmet affect safety,

"John", please. Just keep drinking the kool aid Big Fat is selling you while he's laughing on his way to the bank.
The bigger issue is an owner who doesn't listen to fans. It was voted overwhelmingly by fans that they wanted black on black uniforms. But did the Panthers take notice? No. They continue to wear the same, tired white jerseys the majority of games.
Black helmets were NEVER going to be a part of the uniform because Big Fat is way too conservative and too cheap. Even though the fans put money in his pocket, does he listen?

They wear white because its hot as balls outside. Not because some redneck thinks it looks good. We dont need any heat stroke or worse on the field. They will wear the black later in the season when it gets cooler out.

Love the current silver helmets. They stand out and go with all their jerseys. Black helmets with black jersey and black pants are too much black! Black helmet would be too hot also.

Never been a fan of the Johnny Cash unis. Cheesy. Needs that silver for a contrast. Thats probably why we are losing.

BREAKING NEWS: Associated Press
It has been determined the color black causes irreversible injuries. Starting 9/20/2013 the United States has outlawed night-time hours in all States. According to one source, 6 months out of the year the U.S. will only have 49 States since Alaska will technically be dark for said period of time, thus making it unsafe.
For more information see the CBS nightly news starting at 3 PM.

The committee did't tale the Jaguar that they couldn't wear new hamlet
Our the Miami team they didn't say no more alternate hamlet.
So none when it come to the panther to look nice we have haters! Because we have the best hamlet in the NFL if they get the black hamlet. So if the committee told you wear this one hat for the rest
Of your life you wouldn't do it.
