Browns sign Armanti Edwards

Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Armanti Edwards signed with the Cleveland Browns, where he’ll reunite with Rob Chudzinski, the Browns’ head coach and former Panthers offensive coordinator.

Edwards, a former Appalachian State quarterback and Carolina’s 2010 third-round pick, was released by the Panthers on Oct. 8 after seeing limited reps on offense and averaging 19.7 yards per kick return during his 39-game stint with the team.

Tuesday’s signing came after the Browns placed receiver Travis Benjamin on injured reserve after he tore his ACL in a loss to Kansas City on Sunday.

I knew it was only a matter of time until someone picked up Armanti! With the Browns woes at Quarterback, maybe Chud will give Armanti a refresher on the playbook and have him under Center real soon.
Armanti is about to become a star now in the NFL, so world better watch out! The Panthers had their chance and sure blew it!

Maybe he will benefit the Browns. He made plays here when he was put on the field. But, they would not really put him on the field. I hope they give him a real chance because the Panthers sure didn't. Glad to see his career was not totally ruined by the Panthers.

At least he'll finally have a good QB throwing to him.

this is going to make so many people mad for absolutely no reason.

they are 1 injury to jason campbell away from this dude getting his doug flutie/tim tebow on. and they are 1 non-injury to jason campbell away from him getting his 2013 ted ginn on.

the difference between edwards and ginn: ginn played receiver and returner basically all his life. ginn still drops a ton of passes. ginn was given the opportunity to get some throws early on this year. ginn was signed by gettleman. ginn is faster straight line, but has nowhere near the scat movements and ball skills edwards has.

so is..........hixon cursing the team now? i mean those 4th and 5th wideouts sure do hold the starters back with all their.....practice reps and such.

Chud knew a good thing when he was here and is taking AE to Cleveland where hopefully there is no coach who will used him a pawn against the owner, or a lose-lose situation where he cannot show his formidable skills. and Canther's, Armanti's Browns play you next season....Hmmmmmmm.

Wish him the best.

Re the C.O.'s update in comments: I guess better late than never?

But congrats are still due to Armanti Edwards. Lite it up in Cleveland and we'll see you here next year!

GO AE! My new favorite team!

I have never seen so much irrational love for a guy who has done NOTHING to earn it.

Many college stars flame out in the NFL. It's okay. It happens. He can't live off Michigan forever.

He's such a star playmaker that it took him three weeks to get signed after he got released.

5 catches. 121 yards. Yeah, those "ball skills" have served him well.

Posted by: fbj | Oct 29, 2013 11:29:19 PM

i've never seen so much irrational hate for a guy.

5 catches in how many targets (9)? how many snaps (not many)? how many drops? zero.

"he got caught by the punter" the punter had a 50 yard head start. the guy had like 1 bad game as a panther and that was when he was fumbling punt returns as a rookie in preseason. outside of that, he was just on the roster minding his business and made a few plays out of the few snaps he got.

to hate that guy is no different than hating hixon right now. the only difference I can come up with is that hixon hasn't been doing any returning and he has 2 grabs for 12 yards in 6 games.

You know, AE only got a few snaps in his Panther career because those are all he EARNED, not because there was some big conspiracy.

But congrats to him for getting picked up.

I see Browns making the highlight reels. "Come on man" (lol). Go AE make em look silly.

Posted by: GUESS WHO | Oct 30, 2013 12:41:13 AM

so if the guy produced big in the few snaps he had, why are you mad? and by that same context...didn't he earn more of a look this year?

oh wait, i forgot, he isn't one of gettleman's guys.

you can't possibly think hixon earned it any more than edwards this year.

Posted by: charlottean | Oct 30, 2013 1:00:41 AM

Every player on the Panthers roster has "earned" it more than Edwards. It's why they are still there and he is not.

It's also why Gettleman is GM and you are an App State grad.

You've got to stop with your constant crying and whining about this guy. It's exhausting.

Posted by: Fred | Oct 30, 2013 1:52:51 AM

Armanti isn't one of Gettleman's guys. He was one of Hurney's guys, and couldn't even see the field during Hurney's tenure. And the Panthers WR corps was TERRIBLE before Lafell stepped up and Ginn came along. And Armanti STILL couldn't get on the field.

By the way, App State is 2-6 this year, and they're still in FCS. Imagine how well they'll do next year when they play against the big boys every week!

He stinks. Armati Edwards is why there is the Arena League and the CFL. Yea he got caught by the punter "who had the head start" (nice excuse Armanti fans) but he also got caught from behind on the only other "big play" he ever made on that screen pass up the sideline. If you are flyer - then you have to possess that extra gear when you break into the open. th only thing the Panthers did wrong with Edwars is draft him in the 1st place!

Posted by: td1315 | Oct 30, 2013 6:39:07 AM

Armanti is a great person and has been a standup guy through all of the BS from the panthers. Let him make his money in peace. Keep going Armanti !

Posted by: Mr. Mark Francis | Oct 30, 2013 7:29:37 AM

Armanti should probably learn how to speak Canadian. He and Tebow.

Posted by: big gulps | Oct 30, 2013 9:35:00 AM

You App Fans are so delusional. Granted AE is the best football player to ever play in Boone. I am all for pride in your school and former players but APP fans take it to the extreme. I guess when Dexter Coakley is the only NFL success the school has had that will happen. This talk of him not being a Gettlemen guy is ridiculous. He was an extreme reach in the 3rd Round of 2010. He may see the field in Cleveland as a returner. These delusions that he is going to come in and be a QB if they lose another QB is crazy. He was a great college player and a stand up citizen but that doesn't always cut it in the NFL. Panthers made right decision in cutting him, the coaches didn't see anything in him in practice thus he didn't see the field.

Posted by: Delusional App Fans | Oct 30, 2013 10:14:57 AM

i'm not an app st. grad at all. i would never go to that school, ever. just proves my point further.

you guys hate the guy because of where he went to school and what he did in college (which was incredible, mind you) and not based on what he's done since. I care none about where the guy went to school. I saw a guy that could play receiver better than plenty we've had over the years and i saw a guy that was a better QB than jimmy clausen in the 3 or so snaps that he played at QB for us.

what did domenik hixon do to earn it while he was hurt? since then?

Posted by: charlottean | Oct 30, 2013 10:47:07 AM

You said it all, he never got a chance here. That is fine, he will have a chance hopefully in Cleveland. He made plays when he was on the field here period. Whether it was an 80 yard pass or a 69 yard punt return, it doesn't matter. He didn't score for whatever reason, it doesn't matter. They helped the team win and that is what does matter. It only matters for us now when Lafell drops a sure first down on 4th down. Picking and choosing what plays matter with a particular players is pointless because that argument can go on forever. They all make plays at times and they all mess up at times.
