Panthers safety Lester out vs. Rams

Rookie strong safety Robert Lester is among the Panthers' inactives Sunday vs. St. Louis, meaning Quintin Mikell will start against his former team.

Lester missed last week's game at Minnesota with a hamstring injury, but practiced fully Friday and was listed as probable.

Mikell, who spent the past two years with the Rams, started vs. the Vikings last week despite an ankle injury he said was still bothering him. Mikell had five tackles, but missed two other stops, including one on the Vikings' lone touchdown.

Several Panthers' defensive players, including free safety Mike Mitchell, have leaned on Mikell this week for information on the Rams' players and tendencies.

The Panthers' other inactives are DB D.J. Moore, RB Armond Smith, DTs Sione Fua and Dwan Edwards, CB Josh Norman and WR and St. Louis native Marvin McNutt.

Rams cornerback Cortland Finnegan, a former Pro Bowler, will miss his third consecutive game due to a thigh injury.

Why not play McNutt? Is Lester out as a precautionary move? Josh Norman must be in the dog house.

josh norman is getting the joe adams treatment for the buffalo game and I gotta say.....he partly deserves it and the other part....i suspect having to do with hurney having drafted him and not gettleman.

the guy COULD be a solid corner for us. he can't get better sitting out every week. and obviously we haven't needed him, secondary has been stout.

Mike mitchell has been an absolute PLAY MAKER since godfrey went down. he looked horrible in pre season with all of the late hit penalties, but the guy is getting it DONE right now. the picks were thrown right to him, but the open field tackles and the sacks and the forced fumble.....just great playmaking.
