Blackburn will be a game-day decision

Panthers coach Ron Rivera indicated all week running back Jonathan Stewart would return to action following an 11-month hiatus Sunday against the Falcons.

Rivera said the team would make it "official" on Saturday when they activate Stewart from the physically unable to perform list. Stewart has been on the PUP list since the preseason following offseason surgeries on both ankles.

Stewart is expected to be joined in the backfield by leading rusher DeAngelo Williams, who is listed as probable for the Falcons' game after bruising his thigh last week at Tampa Bay.

Defensive end Charles Johnson (groin) and Williams both practiced on a limited basis Friday for the first time this week. Johnson, who leads the team with six sacks, also is listed as probable.

Outside linebacker Chase Blackburn, who aggravated a foot injury, is listed as questionable and will be a game-day decision, Rivera said.

If Blackburn does not play, rookie A.J. Klein likely would replace Blackburn on obvious running downs, with Jordan Senn also in the mix.

Defensive tackle Dwan Edwards, who has missed five games with a hamstring injury, and linebacker Thomas Davis (shoulder) both were full participation Friday and probable for Sunday.

no worries we have jon beason - OH WAIT.

People still talking about Jon Beason not on the team. The man didn't want to be a backup. I mean what part of that dont people understand. Still have the second best defense in the league. Either get over Jon Beason being gone or be a Giants fan. Its that easy.

panthersallday, charlottean is in love with Beason,I truly hope he will become a Giants fan and comment on their blog and stay away from any about the Panther's,he thinks he is funny, but he will never be,and I expect he will continue his Beason love affair.

If you're going to comment on here at least you good english. I can hardly make out what you're saying…

If Beason stays health all year it will be a bust for the panthers but I can totally understand at the time Ron was on the hot seat and didnt like a player demanding his starting job back, when looking at the film footage Beason was not playing at 100% and was hurting us on defense so Ron made a heads up call and made the change, Which I agree with ,LOok at stewy he didnt try to demand to come back before he was a 100 percent an hurt the team. Shows me Beason was out for himself and must of been worried Blackburn would keep his job which anyone knows Beason would of got it back soon as he was healty. Soon as NY gets a new middle line backer Beason will be back utside again wonder if he`ll run into Tom`s office and start demanding

well Big Rob maybe you should learn proper grammar before you decide to hop on a blog site. "At least you good english...." Think the proper word is "use." Funny seeing people correct grammar and english and they can't even spell. Oh well!! GO PANTHERS!!!!

A.J Klein could be a liability in pass coverage (especially PA) but I think the young man deserves a chance to start. Very solid linebacker at Iowa St.

if blackburn can play and be effective he should play,i would like to see us win every game but this one we need its divisonal.

it's not about trading beason. it's about getting absolutely no value for him. he didn't want to be a backup....he had no business being a backup.

he looked bad in his first game action coming back from multiple surgeries......how was that unexpected?

then he sits for a week. then he gets traded, suits up for the G-men and what do you know.....he's jon beason again. we traded a pro bowler for a conditional late round pick. if you trade a STARTER for that, it's a bad move, let alone for a pro bowler. especially when you're still eating most if not all of his salary.

no mention of it, but they waived armond smith today.....special teams looking a little thin if blackburn is out and klein is starting.

The lost we had to the Bills Blackburn missed two VERY IMPORTANT TACKLES..one was for a touchdown.Just saying for those acting as if he is s major upgrade from Beason! But our defense is strong up frony and TD and Kuech...take care of the LB Slots!

Beason is a great middle but only average as a OLB. He wasn't getting his old job back from Kuechley and would be over paid playing on the outside.

The move was good for Beason and the panthers.

he was a pro bowler as a outside linebacker the first year davis got hurt. he was great as a rookie when morgan was healthy.

he played mostly OLB in college. that's just not factually correct.
