Panthers make it official, sign C/G Geoff Hangartner

Once again, Geoff Hangartner and the Panthers are reunited.

The Panthers signed the free agent offensive lineman Tuesday, moving lineman Jeff Byers to the injured reserve with a foot injury.

The move was expected. The Observer reported Monday that Hangartner was flying to Charlotte and would sign with the team pending a physical.

This is Hangartner's third stint with the team. He played for Carolina between 2005-2008, and again between 2011-2012. He was released during training camp in August.

It's unclear who will get the start at right guard Sunday against the 49ers. Starter Chris Scott is day-to-day with a knee sprain, and Hangartner has not been with a team since Carolina released him this summer.
