LB Thomas Davis named NFC Defensive Player of the Month

No one’s overlooking Thomas Davis and his story anymore.

On Tuesday, the Panthers linebacker was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for the month of November.

Davis racked up 35 tackles, including 17 in a Monday Night Football win against the Patriots, one sack, one interception, a forced fumbles and two passes defensed in November as the Panthers went undefeated.

The nine-year veteran has played both weakside and strongside linebacker for Carolina, and Sunday against the Dolphins he dislocated his finger and the bone broke the skin. He required stitches during and after the game but did not miss a single defensive snap.

He was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after a two-sack performance against Minnesota in Week 6.

Davis is the first Panther to be named NFC Player of the Month since DeAngelo Williams won the offensive honors in December 2008.

Kuechly gets most of the recognition but this guy is a baller. We all know he had 3 acl surgeries but he is still a great player regardless. Definitely my favorite player and he is the epitome of physical and mental toughness.

Totally deserved this honor! Congrats TD and keep it going this Sun against TB! GO PANTHERS!

just imagine if we had let beason come back from his injuries instead of paying him to play for the giants.

and no i'm not getting over it. dude is playing great for new york. and all we're getting is a 7th? what the eff.

I saw Beason a lot on TV against Dallas this weekend...mostly the back of his jersey running a yard behind whoever had the ball

Keep Pounding!!

@charlottean, i agree, but the past is the past now we have to move on, maybe the giants will return the favor in the future.. maybe we can get hakeem nicks for the low since he is having a terrible season..

@ Charlottean, You are the biggest hater. Who cares about Jon Beason. We have one of the best if not the best LB in the middle. The newly crowned Defensive Player of the Month and AJ Klein is slowly making his place at that other weakside spot. Jon Beason is gone and not coming back. If he is helping the Giants so be it, but we still have one of the best defenses in the NFL minus him so we not missing him at all. That era is over so either get on board or jump off. Guess you want Jake Delhomme back at QB as well.

@charlottean, I guess we all have different definitions of "playing great"...I think Beason is a great leader and is good at motivating others but great tackling when you're already beaten isn't "great play" in my book. The pick we got was also conditional depending on snaps, etc so it will most likely be something much better than a 7th rounder if he doesn't get hurt before the end of the season.

More importantly, TD is soooooo the man!!! Definitely my favorite Panther on and off the field, so humble yet sooo deserving!!

how can I be a hater for being a fan of beason?

that's actually the opposite of what hater means.

I'm just pointing out that a lot of you were howling for the team to cut thomas davis last year and the year before and even this offseason. look at him now that he's recovered.

could have been beason.

oh and for the genius talking about the dallas game, you might want to re run that film. while you're at it, run the film of the green bay game and all of the games since he went up north. the dude has been playing ball. arguing that is arguing against facts. look at their win/loss record before and after he joined the starting lineup. not an accident.

@Charlottean .... Would you rather have Beason or Luke? Can't have both. Yes he is playing great in NY but he is playing MLB. We already have a monster in the middle. Neither player is effective on the outside. I liked Beason as much as the next guy and I hated to see him go, but it was the right move. I would have liked to get more than a 7th for him, but still was the right move to let him go.

Congratulation to Thomas Davis! The man is a class act and it is nice to see him get some national recognition. Glad you are still on our team, TD! And I am even more glad that the hard work you endured during rehab has paid off. : )

Who cares about Beason. When he was still playing with us earlier this season, he couldn't cover a cold and missed tackles. And he insisted on being the MIKE linebacker, so the Panthers did him a favor and obliged him. No other team around was going to give any more in return than what the Giants did (probably only because of Gettleman's ties to them) because he looked mediocre. We're fine without him.

I'm just wondering how long I and most other readers would have been out of work with this injury. Amazing!

I'm happy for Beason. He owes us nothing (though the Giants might). He was misplaced at OLB and wasn't going to take Kuechly's place at MLB.

I just hope everyone is taking a few minutes to vote for Thomas Davis in the pro bowl, several times.

Talk about toughness. This guy is a modern marvel!!

He deserves every honor he gets, Davis is a winner and we have two young guys coming along as well. Go Panthers.

Not only should TD make the Pro Bowl, he should the the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year.
