Combine profile: Boise State DE Demarcus Lawrence

Name: Demarcus Lawrence

Position: Defensive end

Height/weight: 6-3/251

School/class: Boise State/Junior

Projected round: 3rd-4th

Career highlights: Led Mountain West Conference with 10.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss in 2013, and finished with 72 tackles (39 solos) and three forced fumbles. Began his college career at Butler (Kansas) Community College, where he led the team with 27 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 2011.

Did you know?: Lawrence grew up Aiken, S.C., and attended Butler at the urging of his cousin, Marcus Lawrence, a linebacker who played at Butler and later was a starter at South Carolina. ... Lawrence was suspended three times for violation of team rules at Boise State.

Quotes: "I hope teams, when they see me on the field, take away how versatile I am. Whatever they want me to do, I can do it, either play linebacker or D-end."

"I think I've matured. Right now I feel that really I've grown up a lot on and off the field. It's really not a problem. I feel like I became a better man, not just for myself but for others. I feel like I look at for other people."

"It would mean a lot. It's been a lifelong dream. I've been watching the draft process for a long time. Now it's finally my turn. It'll be very good."

Panthers’ level of interest: Lawrence is a proven pass-rusher, and the Panthers might need one if they don't re-sign Greg Hardy. But Lawrence is a bit of a 'tweener at 251 pounds, and might be a better fit as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme. He looks like he could add muscle to long frame if a team like the Panthers wanted him as a true defensive end.

not a fit for a 4-3 defense, will be an OLB. Very raw but has good potential
