Combine profile: LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr.

Name: Odell Beckham Jr.

Position: Wide receiver

Height/weight: 5-11/198

School/Class: Louisiana State/Junior

Projected round: 1st-2nd

Career highlights: He was a first-team All-SEC pick last season after he broke the school record more single-season all-purpose yards. He showed flashes as a returner for the Tigers, and was named the Paul Hornung Award winner as the most versatile player in college football in 2013.

Did you know?: His father played 28 games for LSU from 1989-1992 and his mother was a standout, All-America track athlete from 1991-1993.

Quotes: "I’m the type of guy that guys will vibe to. Just for me, getting the opportunity to get to know the guys and becoming a part of that organization is the biggest thing.

“I definitely say (his athletic background) helped out with my mom being a track star and my dad playing football. It definitely made me who I am today. My mom’s always coaching me up on the track side and my dad in football."

Panthers’ level of interest: This could be a guy you see in a Panthers uniform. He’s decently fast—we’ll find out how fast Saturday—and has OK size. Interviews will be important for Beckham, who no doubt has the genetics to be the athletic receiver Carolina needs. But he’s an early enrollee in the draft, and Gettleman has put an emphasis on getting mature, seasoned guys, as evidenced by last year’s draft. Depending on what the team does with Ted Ginn Jr., Beckham would also be an attractive prospect due to his return abilities.
