Steve Smith, wife expecting a boy

The next Steve Smith isn’t Oregon State wide receiver Brandin Cooks—it’s Steve Smith Jr.

The longest-tenured Panther announced on his Instagram that he and his wife, Angie, are expecting a boy.

"It's official. This year the name on the back of my jersey will read. .. Smith Sr.," Smith wrote.

Smith likes to joke, so it's unclear if the child's name will actually be Steve Smith Jr. or if he'll wear Smith Sr. on the back of his jersey.

But the jersey may be a tough sell. One of the most famous cases of a jersey name change came in 2009 when the NFL wouldn’t allow Chad Johnson to wear “Ochocinco” on his jersey for a year after Reebok had already created that year’s inventory of jerseys with “Johnson” on the back.

The Smiths will be expecting their fourth child in late spring or early summer. Steve Smith will be entering his 14th season in the NFL.

19th all-time....

if he manages 1,002 next year we're talking 13th all-time.

1 more 1,000 after that, we're talking 8th.

here's to hoping he guts it out a few more years and makes his way into canton.

25th in receptions, 164 away from the exclusive 1,000 club (currently 9 members).
