Combine profile: Notre Dame OT Zack Martin
Name: Zack Martin
Position: Offensive lineman
School/Class: Notre Dame/Senior
Projected round: 1st
Career highlights: He started all 52 games in which he played at Notre Dame, which was a school record. He was also a two-time captain for the Irish and was a second-team All-American in his junior season.
Did you know?: He gave up just one sack in his final two years at Notre Dame.
Quotes: “I think I can play tackle, and I think I can play it at a high level, but at the same time I’m a versatile player,” Martin said at the Senior Bowl. “You’ve got to be a technician. You’ve got to study tape and know your opponent. There are other ways to get an advantage on your opponent and you have to find those.”
Panthers’ level of interest: With an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl, Martin solidified his position in the first round. But what his position will be is a question. Martin has shorter arms (32 7/8 inches) than what is ideal for a left tackle. Some teams may view Martin as a guard, and if that’s the case, he’ll be gone before the Panthers pick at No. 28. But if teams pass on Martin because of his arm length, the Panthers could be in the money late in the first round. Jordan Gross is the same height and weight as Martin.
