Kelvin Benjamin contract worth $7.66M, with $6.19M guaranteed

Carolina Panthers first-round pick Kelvin Benjamin's four-year deal is worth $7.66 million, with $6.19 million guaranteed, according to the contract details obtained by the Observer on Monday.

Benjamin, the former Florida State wide receiver and the 28th overall pick in last month's draft, received a signing bonus worth $3.89 million.

Only the first three years of Benjamin's contract are guaranteed. He has a $1 million salary and a $465,125 roster bonus in 2017 during the final year of the deal.

The Panthers' three other first-round picks under the current collective bargaining agreement all received fully guaranteed rookie deals, but all were among the first 14 picks.

Quarterback Cam Newton signed for $22 million as the top pick in 2011. Middle linebacker Luke Kuechly, the ninth overall pick in 2012, received $12.58 million, while defensive tackle Star Lotulelei got $9.6 million guaranteed after the Panthers took him 14th last year.

The Panthers have their entire 2014 draft class under contract after Benjamin and third-round offensive lineman Trai Turner signed last week.

Turner's four-year deal is worth $2.79 million, but the only guaranteed money is Turner's signing bonus of $539,800.

Panthers defense is going to be #1 this year. Just plan sick... They upgraded the safties and added a former first round conerback in Cason. Melvin White is going to be even better than last year and Godfrey will be an upgrade over Captain at the nickle. The o-line might struggle at times but they can scheme to protect came with a solid FB and good blocking WRs.

The offense is in trouble. The defense is going to be killing people out there. Our pass coverage stunk last year by the way. It should be the same if not a little better this year with our d line having more strength and quickness opening up more turnover oppurtunities for our secondary. the media said we wouldnt win 8 games last year and they say the same this year. I say we win 10. but in two years we will be nasty. the gm is smart and has huge balls.

The offensive line is very suspect. Not sure how staff will overcome before season begins. Hopefully a seasoned veteran linemen will be cut during camp.

O line has most of the same guys as last year... Couple key drops but otherwise pretty much the same

Dude the oline does not have most of the same guys from last year. Gross ring a bell?

Think you guys are making to much of a fuss with our o-line. Do you not recall we had multiple injuries on our O-line from start to finish. Give them guys time to work together. We still have the best Center in football. Tre Turner was a great upgrade in the draft and if you dont recall even with a banged up oline we still managed to be number one in ball control and top ten in rushing. That means even with a make shift line we were still affective. Yes we lost Gross but that just means its time for somebody to step up. Working against CJ and Hardy will help our tackles out a lot and we have depth and guards for days. Panthers will win double digit games again this year and with an improved secondary and same front seven I'm expeecting big things from the Panthers.

Great to sign all so soon as to NOT delay the process of training & allowing the to start evenly for the open spots on the roster for this year. Kelvin Benjamin can shut MANY mouths up, along with the whole Panther Team this year.
